Hi guys and gal, When I first came to the Copper forum and was exposed to the fine people here, considering my background I could not believe none had heard of simple items like a Polyphasor, Heliax coaxial cable, Penetrox, halo grounds, or some of the other things I take for granted in professional radio engineering. Before I popped in, it seems like RG-8 was the 'best' cable you could use, and lightning protection consisted of unplugging your coax and keeping the end in a jar until the storm had passed. It seemed that nobody believed what I said at first, and many believed most of the things I was talking about were 'unreachable' by the CB community. I am glad I stuck with it. I remember some of the discussions on antennas centered around co-phasing mobile antennas for gain, and why one monster coil antenna got out better than the other. I know that I have helped people see outside the small box the CB market has been confined to. I also know that many people who had no knowledge of items or products outside the CB catalogs are now looking at professional products and imagining how to incorporate some of the professional items into their stations now. Copper has begun to carry some of the same professional radio items as the 'big guys', and Copper has been elevated to a status in many ways, above the ham suppliers. Why do I bring this up? Am I tooting my own horn? Absolutely not. I know it sounds that way, but that is not the case. The reason for this post is, I really wanted to thank you all for embracing me as you have and for listening to what I have to say. In return, I sure hope I helped expand the horizons a little. The CB crowd has been so welcoming! One of the reasons I have shunned the ham community is because of the routine where they ask me a question, then when I give the answer, they tell me I am so very wrong. If you already 'knew' the answer, why did you ask? Because hams are always competing with each other to try and sound the smartest. Luckily, I am not like that. My personality is such that I will try to help anyone who asks. If I am incorrect, I want to know about it! Afterall, I do not know everything. If I don't know, I say so. If I am not sure, I say so. If I do know, I give an answer. As soon as someone becoms argumentative, I simply leave. That is why I do not hang around with hams. So, as I enter my third year here, I want to say thanks. I mean that sincerely. I hope I can give back to you all what you have given to me. I am going to take this shortwave forum seriously and see where it goes. I hope I can open some more worlds to my friends here. Please let me know if I have helped.

Tech833 Your help has been much appreciated and you have helped me out many times. One thing you have done for me is you have answered my questions without making me feel stupid, or puffing your self up when answering. Unlike some you are willing to answer questions that are a simple matter of fact to you without getting an attitude. In other words you take a matter of fact attitude and without rubbing it in our faces, and with the real knowledge to back yourself up. There are some on the forum that will answer (and at times without the knowledge to back it up) with a belittling attitude in their answers. Believe me your accepting generous attitude is greatly appreciated when answering what must to you be simple questions. Your knowledge, honesty and attitude has helped many of us, and I hope you’re here with us for a long time as a friendly helping hand. 73 Bob

Tech833: I wish to take this time to thank you for your posts on shortwave radio. They bring back to thought my years of SWLing of some 50 years past as a teenager that wanted to learn all he could about shortwave radio, I spent many a night looking at the glowing lamps of a Hallicrafters S-53 and turning the knobs until some of the paint on the face plate was worn thin. those years gave me great pleasure and A better understanding of this big world of ours there for the listning. Yes, please do keep up the good work of putting together your posts on shortwave, very interesting reading for even a close to 67 year old that to this day still enjoys twisting those radio knobs. Thanks and 73, Carl CEF-357-KD5SDM |
