Can any one tell me if the counter changes on this radio or any radios when moving the clarifier?
Just currius if counters show the changes in receive and transmit and do the radios transmit
on the frequency shown?
I know this is a dumb question but I dont know anything about counters.

I'm not sure if the frequency changes on that radio, but it changes on my Euro 3900 (plug-in Galaxy frequency counter) when I adjust my receive clarifier as well as the transmit one.

Yes it does AP1! But the clarifier only works on recieve it does not change the transmit. |

Yes, Airplane 1,
it is a true frequency counter, meaning it reads the actual freq when you turn the clarifier, as opposed to a frequency display like the RCI 2950 radios which is a static display.
The 696FD1 counter reads the freq on transmit & receive, and they might be off a bit, like seeing 27.3750 on receive & 27.3748 on transmit.
I just got one of those radios and did a quick adjustment to get transmit and receive lined up.
The TR696FD1 is the same guts as the Galaxy 949/959 series radios, so alignment and adjustment procedures are the same.

I would NOT suggest you trying an Alignment unless you have the Experience and Right Equipment.
ie: Signal Generator, Scope, Frequency Counter, Volt/Ohm Meter, Test leads and Schematics and Alignment Tools and Correct Alignment Information.
It is very easy to get a radio WAYYYYYYY out of Alignment if you DO NOT HAVE the Proper Equipment and Experience.
I would suggest asking around your area or within 100 miles or so and find a GOOD Radio Shop with experience and feedback from other radio operators in your area who have had work done there and have been 100% satisfied.

Lon is correct about getting things way out of wack if you don't have equipment and experience.
I have the tools that Lon mentioned and have aligned all my radios (ham radios too), but I only do my own stuff, as I am an "amateur" (which means I have broke more stuff than I fixed)
I know of a guy in Bucks County PA and could send you his phone number if you are interested.
