i got a like new 959 today from a guy he said it would not stop scanning frek as soon as you turn it on. he was right it starts scanning as soon as you power it up. it receives fines transmit it fine everything seems to work fine it just will not stop scanning channels on the frek counter starts low in frek an counts high what could be the problem any help on this would be great.

it sounds like the vco is
out of lock

i also check a few sites for mods for this radio an i have found where someone has cut 2 wires in the radio an have put them back together next to the channel selector i think it was some kind of channel mod they were trying to do from what i have read about so could they have burnt anything up in the radio by doing this? what ever they were trying to do they undone it. |

hello jon
what do i need to do then replace the pll in the radio? is there any difference in a mb8719 pll an the rci8719 thats in the radio? |

just changed the pll an the 10.240 crystal an the radio still does the same thing. anybody !!! |

I'm a 'know nothing CBer' but in true CB fashion I will make a guess. I had a CB once that if you held the control knob between two channels then it would scan. My guess is that when you turn the dial maybe a little cam or something opens a switch allowing the channel to change. If so, could this be stuck open? Just a wild guess. Maybe one of the techs can elaborate if I'm on to something. |

tumbleweed,the 959 doesnt have the spdt switch fo the ch selector,it is a standard 40 posistion switch.was the 8719 ic new or salvaged?what is the voltage on tp2 with the mode switch in am and is voltage stable or running up and down?at this point I would look more at ic2the vco ic.also check to see if the slug in L-14 is cracked. |
