From the C.Crane company online catalog: "We can modify the Sangean ATS 818ACS to eliminate muting for an analog sound and feel. We can also add a RCA-type Antenna Jack Modification for use with an external SW antenna."

Perhaps the C.Crane company might share the modification with you if you ask nice.

thank you tech833, i really appreciate you responding to my post. i was beginning to think that i was the only one who has ever wanted to do this. i am aware of the company that will do the mod, but being a true "screwdriver expert", i've got to try on my own. i figured if there was a mod in existence, then it would be somewhere on the net. i have done an exhaustive ammount of searching and can only find the mod for other models. it seems that they all involve removing a diode or at least only one part change. i cant believe i cant find it. i will take your suggestion and call them, but i cant see them not wanting to make money off of me. thanks again for the help and for your time spent searching. i'll bet it was frustrating.

I am not fimiliar with Kiawa kit.I know they make filters for that are used in upgrading the Realistic/Radio Shack DX-394 shortwave receiver. Both my DX-390 and DX-394 are stock so I can not give an opinion on them. The way it was explained to me is that these filters make the "receive window" narrower and results in less interferance from strong stations close to your monitoring frequency.I hope that explanation is correct and I hope you understand what I meant.

2ec837, i did the mod last night. i couldnt believe how simple it was. usually with a little plastic radio you cant help but break something taking it apart. this one was a breeze. thank you again, i love scanning the HF band with it.
tech833, im interested in trying the filter, thanks for the suggestion.
