Just a curious question... Can the swing be changed on a CB radio without actually changing dead key wattage??? JIM/CENTRAL PA/CEF 375 |

without opening up radio you can lower mic gain on radio or power mic to quickly and easily lower swing. of course audio will drop if gain is turned down a lot. |

Depending on the radio, it can be modified for heavy swing and the deadkey re-set to the original wattage and it will swing with the modulation. |

mrgoody, im afraid you're not going to like my answers very much. that TRC-30 is just not worth fixing. once you get it back to perfect condition, you still only have a marginally performing radio. that radio is worth about $10.00 at a garage sale. (mint condition) if you want to fix it to learn more about radios then order a copy of "The Scredriver Experts Guide to CB repair" by Lou Franklin. it is available from Copper and it will explain everything to you better than i or anyone else could on this forum. that radio could have a blown front end transistor, or could be seriously out of alignment, or any number of other things. if you must mess with it; GOOD! that's how you will learn. just be prepared to throw it away when you're done. seriously, get the book. it will change your CB life! also, when using this forum to ask a question; you should either start your own thread or find one that is specifically about your radio/ problem. what you are doing is known as "hi-jacking a thread." no big deal, im just letting you know for future referrence. sorry about the discouraging response. (didnt mean to rain on your parade) get on *bay, and find an old uniden or cobra chassis. dont pay more than 50.00 for it. start hitting local garage sales early in the morning. you'll be surprised how many radios you'll have to play with. good luck! matt |
