I am thinking of getting signal engineering superhawk or maco 103c beam antenna, any info on these two antennas would be helpful like which is better of the two and build quality ect.

Roger,
I can offer some info on the Maco 103c, since I got one from Copper a few years ago.
I was impressed with it's performance, especially for the price.
It is relatively easy to assemble and tune. I had mine up on a 36' push up pole and used a simple RS tv rotator, so it didn't cost a whole lot extra to get it up on the air.
All I can guess about the Superhawk is that it looks like a PDL-2 antenna, and they were very good antennas offering horizontal & vertical polarity. They are a bit more tricky to assemble and can be subject to damage in more severe climates. |

I purchased a Signal engineering Superhawk, and I am assembling it now. I should have it up in a few days. Construction quality is fair. But it should work relatively well I think. I have had a PDL 2 quad, and still have one NIB that I'm keeping. The PDL 2 quad was a very good antenna.
A 2 ele quad has slightly less gain than a 3 element yagi, but is quieter and recieves skip stations more effectively. However 2ir473 is right about climate damage. |

I ran a SuperHawk for a few months, and Personaly dident like it. Im not sure if they have changed the matching system or not but about 5 years ago when I got mine every time the wind would blow or I would turn the antenna the match would change, and it was very picky to the distance above ground. I had it on a 60ft crankup and would need to find the sweet spot by cranking the tower up and down until the SWR's would get good.
Maybe I had a bad antenna, not sure. |
