for Pain In The Butt!!!
Ive been fighting this one for over an hour.
I have a steel post bolted to the bed of my Toyota 4x4,the coax runs down the center of the post,through the bed,under the truck and into the cab.
Its a new coax and is tight at both ends.
10K predator is mounted properly and is secure.
I have a new radio and no matter what channel Im on it PEGS the SWR meter.Dial a watt is at about 2 watts.
coax connections to the radio and meter and antenna are all secure.
Yes,I have the meter set right.
I have the bed of the truck grounded to the frame and am wondering if I need to groung the post to the bed??
This one has me baffled,anyone have any ideas?? |

it's probably something so simple, just a dumb mistake!
does radio have built in swr meter? or are you using only external? try a different radio w/built in swr meter & see where you're at. are coax ends soldered correctly? check w/ohmeter to see if shorted shield to center conductor. check antenna body to truck to see if antenna/mount is shorted. check whip-is it not making connection inside antenna body? is antenna not making good contact(corrosion) in mount? double & triple check meter settings, just in case! try a different antenna(mag mount even) just to see if you get a different reading. try meter on base or somewhere where you know swr's are good. you never know, meter could have died. if anything, with low input, 2 watts, your biggest problem should be not enough watts to set cal.
i'll bet by now your swr's are 1.4:1 and you found that dumb mistake! |

This does not sound like a "lack of ground" issue - more like a "dead short" issue, and unfortunately, it is probably necessary to do an elimination list:
-check co-ax with ohm meter
-check antenna connection with ohm meter
-is it possible to connect radio in another
vehicle?
-is it possible to connect another radio to this
vehicle? |

Thanks Gumball,I got it.
The isolator on the mount was grounding out.
Now it rocks though,got my DaveMade singing!!
