I need some help. My Kenwood modulates backwards on am radio. Also, the receive is not too good. I'm pretty sure all the filters are off. A couple seem to be built in and don't go off. Anyway, if there is a pot I can turn let me know. Thanks, Mikefromms |

mikefromms-i had a yaesu ft757gxII that did the same thing on AM, major downwards modulation on the external wattmeter, up and down mod according to the rigs PO meter, yet ALC was where it was supposed to be. meticulous adjustment of front & rear AM carrier controls would show 25 watts dead key and mod from 10-60 watts. that was the best i could get. being a 'mostly' AMer, it's no-level AM modulation made the radio a candidate for a for sale sign. fortunately it went quickly. i replaced it with an icom ic735 that i saw perform on a scope and a ???(read expensive) wattmeter. i also heard the radio, different mic gain settings and varied power output. it seemed satisfactory to me. needless to say, got it home and saw the same results on my diamond sx100 meter as i had with the yaesu. did everthing i could think of 1st couple weeks i had it, including the meticulous front & rear panel adjustments. it dead keys 40, and modulates 25-85. back to where i got it, saw it on scope, looks fine to me, all his technical mumbo-jumbo and i took it back home. i listen to it regularly when my son calls me when i'm mobile. i see forward swing in MY receive from the icom, with or without the linear on, and the audio sounds fine-loud, clear, good. it has made more then it's share of barefoot dx contacts, am & ssb, including an occasional contact on AM ch 6 in the midst of 30db over 9 signals, and i have yet to have any local AMer or sidebander, mudduck or otherwise say anything bad about my icoms signal or audio. several years now with no complaints, so i just try not to look at the wattmeter when i talk! as for receive, filter adjusts take a bit of getting used to, especially when i don't use the icom, but a 'cb' type radio for a few days. i know this don't help, but maybe it'll make you feel a bit better? |

Thanks for the reply. This radio is a ham radio. I understand the am is set to receive somewhat low to keep it from interfering with ssb. The more I learn about this radio, the more I like it. mikefromms |
