What is the BEST omin base antenna??
I currently have 2.
I use an Imax 2000 on one base & an anttron 99 with ground plane kit on the other base.
I have 2 base stations. 1 in the garage & 1 in the house.
The antennas are about 250 feet apart.
What I am lookimg to find out is if there is a better base station omni-directional antenna.
What is the best that is currently available??
Is the maco 5/8 better?
Thanks

i would say you got the best one; the i2k.. i run it i have no complaints at all. the maco 5/8 is not a bad one either.. but i like i2k cause i live so close to the salt water, i dont think the maco would last...

Hummmmm .....

A 5/8 wave is a 5/8 wave no matter how much you pay for it. For the money it's the way to go you get a few db gain over a 1/4 wave and if made right it will last for many years.
If mosley made a CB antenna as good as there 6 meter DI-6 i would buy one in a heart beat .... My DI-6 lasted 30 years and only because after that time there was no way to repair it was it replaced by a SKYLAB and after it took a lighting hit a RINGO.

bulldog, i live on an island, less then 1/2 mile from vast amounts of salt water, my maco v5/8 has been up for 18 years with no ill effects from salt water. changed coax 2x and only had to reset swr's 2x, but that was because ice storms took down mast, had to reshape (bend) bent ground plane elements and antenna, still no ill effects. never had i2k, but replaced a99 w/ v5/8 after less then 2 months, and there was a difference.

Yeah, check out the antenna guide. Also, check out the site here about operator's thoughts on antennas. The Imax is by far the most popular here on this site.

If your looking for more noticable gain
then you have now. Your better off going
with a 3 or 4 element beam setup.
I personally like the Maco V5/8 for a
Omni, but, i also like the Imax 2000 alot.
