i have an older 2950 it is not the dx model i am having trouble changing channels on the knob its iratic jumps up down dont want to change channels right the up down buttons work just fine what can be wrong thank you bbmfic

my 2950 exhibits this same phenomenon. it is quite common in these radios, in fact, i dont know of one that ive seen that doesnt have this problem. to me this means that ranger used a defective or weak part for the channel selector switch. it doesnt bother me much so i just spin the knob a few times and then go to the desired freq. if it really bothers you, you could get the part that they use in the DX models and see if that will work. you can probably get it from ranger usa.

If you are OK with working on SMT parts, you can replace chip-resistor R611 on the CPU board (47K) with a 10K chip or even a 1/8W 10K conventional resistor. This usually fixes the jittery channel knob.
