I have located and purchased a "NEW IN THE FACTORY SEALED BOX" Antenna Specialists MS-119 Super Scanner antenna. I had one of these back in the 70's and it was a great antenna. I only sold it then, after I put up a 4 element Shooting Star on a 50ft tower. We have purchased a new home and I plan to put up a tower this spring for the Super Scanner. I also want to get my Diamond x510 Dual Band VHF/UHF antenna higher as well. My question is this:
If I mount the Super Scanner on a mast on top of the tower and mount the X510 in the center on the mast above it, will the two antennas interfere with each other, or are the frequencies far enough apart to work that close together? 27mhz / 144mhz
OK all you antenna guru's out there what do you think?

409, does the Scanner's mount even allow an extension?
If it does I think you will have to get the Scanner on a mast at least 10' feet out of the tower and then get the x510 above the Scanner maybe at least another 10' or more. That will make for a very long unsupported mast with 20' feet of antenna on top of that.
You will be up there alright, but you will have a lot of line loss to deal with also. Maybe a 100+ feet of line or more working 144mhz is not wise. Consider to go below the Scanner on the side of the tower.
Can't answer about interference. Just something else to think about. |

running the mast up through the scanner will have an effect on it's pattern(shape of lobe) in a directional mode but "probely"not enough for you to notice.as far as interaction between the different bands,i operate 11 meter,6 meter and to a lesser extent 2 meter and have yet to see any interferrence between the 3.

Thanks very much for the replys. I am thinking now I might just put up two 40ft towers. One for the X510 and two meter HORZ loops. The second tower for the Supper Scanner and a side bracket to support a dipole. My thinking is if the Super Scanner does not do what I want it to do, I could take it down and put a 4 element dual polarity beam. Ill just have to see how it all goes. Thanks again, and thanks to Copper for providing such a great place to find information.

My opinion is not to have 2 antennas to
close to each other./ Even though things
appear not noticable, its changing the
pattern someway or another.
You got the right idea, 2 different towers.
