I have a cobra 142 and it works great except the speaker volume is very deep. Its almost some one switched it to low tone and threw away the knob. How can I make the tone crisp and clear like all my other radios? Oh and by the way, my loop oscillator allignment am/lsb/usb, keeps drifting of freq. why is this? It seem to be heat related. How can this be fixed? Please some one help me with my speaker tone problem first.

Is the speaker problem still there when you use an external speaker? The voice coil in your internal one may have seized on you. Just a guess and I may be wrong. Try hooking an external speaker to it and see what that sounds like if you haven't already. Does that radio have a tone adjustment knob on it? My Courier has one of those pull type knobs to change the speaker tone, I don't use it because it muffles the sound to much. After a couple ruptured ear drums my hearing ain't all that good so its got to be crisp and fairly loud so I can hear, but not to loud or I get a crackling noise.

Yes I have tried a external speaker and yes it is still very deep toned. No it does not have a tone switch. This board is used in uniden washington and a madison radio as well and I know surley one of those radios have a tone switch. It would be great if someone could tell me where the switch hooked to the board so maybe i could change it. Thanks for the ideas.
