I put a new radio in an older International Cab Over, (remember those?). anyway, as it turns out, the mirror mounts are aluminum, not metal. How do I get around this. do I ground the antenna mount to the chassis of the truck? If so, where, and with what? The antenna is a Wilson Silver Load 4" with the tunable tip at the top. Thank you in advance. |

On a new style mack ch model I had to run a ground wire from the mount to the frame, I just used small clips around the rain lip and ran the wire across the top of the door and down the back of the cab and grounded it to a bolt that wasnt painted on the frame. the newer Ch MACKS have aluminum mirror arms aswell |

Keith, YES, you run a ground wire from the mirror mount direct to the frame to ground it. I also suggest you go Direct to the batteries for your power to the radio or radio & amp. Hope this helps, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN |

I'd run a ground wire from the mirror mounts too. Funny though I always thought that aluminium was a metal... |

Aluminum is metal and a conductor. As long as there are no plastic washers at the pivot points of the mirror you should not have any ground problems with that truck. The newer trucks that use fiberglass doors do have a lot of ground problems. |

Well guys, guess what! I changed the coax out and wala: it worked. Had to move tip up 1/8" and swr's are practically nil on channel 20, with 1.2 to 1 on channel 40 and 1.5 to 1 on channel 1. I just had a feeling the new coax was not right, so got another piece of new coax, and now the truck driver is a happy camper!! Thanks for all the advice. Keith in Atlanta CEF 150 |
