Well my new radio was delivered today. I gave it a fast look over. My temp antenna has a high swr, so I don't TX on it for more then a sec. But it works great, and a nice looking radio as well. Turns out the 11 meter mod had been done to it already. No biggy, but it would have been fun to do! So now all I need is spring, so I can get the base antenna up. I want to try out my new toys! My "shack" is full. Maybe I need a real shack! The list now is:
Yaesu FT-849
Emperor TS-5010
Diesel Night Hawk
PC 33, which screams!
Roadmaster
Realistic TRC-415
JCPenny 6218
Turner Plus 3B
Sadelta Echo Master Plus
Realistic SWR/Power Meter
14 amp Pyramid power supply
35 amp Pyramid power supply
SkyLab base antenna
And a boat load of parts and pieces!
All in a very small corner of my computer nook. But I say it needs a few more items. Like all the CB collectables I have in 4 boxes.
Yup, I need a real shack, 12 by 12 would be just about right! *G* |

Wow, I have a friend that I trade with and have for years. He wants the 5010. He made me an offer of a Cobra AM base and a AM Cobra mobile. Along with a nice chunk of cash..........what is a boy to do! |

A good 5010 is gettin hard to come by these days!

The TS5010 is pretty unique. It would be easier to find an AM base than another good TS5010. I'd rather have the TS5010 than an AM base - of course I work mostly SSB. Besides - you're out of space already! |

Sodapop, have a look at my ham shack, the top building. The base is 20 feet off the ground. There I will mount a 50 foot push up with my abs1600. On the other side, a 40 foot with my 6 and 10 meter beams, then my uhf. The base of my abs1600 will be at 70ft. I have poles mounted to tie everything down and no neighbors for 2 miles! This is my cabin on my remote ranch. Just didn't have time to finish before Uncle Sam sent me away! |

Slim1 / Racer X - It is a great radio, and I was planning on keeping it. But he is a good friend, and he doesn't have loads of money for CB stuff. I have helped him many times in the past. I let him pay over time. After all, CB is about friendship right? So it's ok, but no one is getting the Yaesu! *G* |

I wouldn't get rid of the Emperor if I was you, it is the best radio I have ever owned. I now have two of them in my closet. |

Hi all. I just found this forum today, and have a couple of questions about my Emperor TS 5010. First, I got one from my bro-in-law recently, already converted and all, but, it's channel numbers are like one number off what they should be. For instance, 27.115 shows as being channel 12. Is this a big deal? He said that he thought that something in the conversion got mixed up. Second, is this radio very hard to learn to use? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanx. |

HEY Nwleadfoot does that radio hve a 10 kc switch? Sounds like the problem. Push that button and see what happens. |

Freqs are not the same as channel numbers, not until your past channel 25. Then they read right. So the radio is working fine, as for using it. You should spend the weekend on it. That is the best way to learn. They are a great radio! |

Sodapop is correct. The channel and the frequency will be off till you get above ch25 then it will read correct. Look to the left of the forum where it says "Channel Chart". Click on that and you see what I mean.

Nwleadfoot,
Your radio is working fine. The conversion only involves the removal of 2 small resistors. If you want the channel display to match it's frequency display for the regular 40 channels, then go to the "C" band. Notice the difference between the lower case "c" and capital case "C". Remember that in the "C" band, you will be unable to fine tune the frequency using the vfo. This radio is fairly straight forward and should give you low hassel. The biggest complaint people have with these are with the memory channels. Not a big deal with me at all. I have used this radio since purchasing new over 10 years ago and have never had any problems with it. If you need a copy of the manual, I could gladly send you one.

after reading your question I called a local near me that I knew had one.He bought his about 10 years ago and has never had to change the battery yet.His has been used as a base and has never been off the power supply since he had it.

Not sure what the problem is. As I've also had my radio for 10+ years, I've never had to replace the battery. It even sat at at idle in the box for 2 years without power and still powered up and retained memories. You've got me stumped. |

Hey ya'll. Thanx for the input about my radio. I just checked, but couldn't locate a 10kc switch on it anywhere. The channel situation doesn't seem to affect the radio's operation or anything. I do know it goes into those channels. I found one of my fav. "rc channels" before I took it out of the car that I'm supposed to be getting. |

Does the 5010 have a memory battery? I had a couple of them in the past and never knew they had a battery. |

Any ideas as to what would be a good mobile power mic for this radio? I really like echo/beep mics, but I know this radio has a puny beep, lol. |

I couldn't recall for sure if it had a battery or not. It's been some years since I've had the covers off the radio. You got my curiosity up so I pulled them off today. On the underside of the radio, located on the CPU/PLL board, is a Panasonic 3V battery. The battery part # is CR2032. This is the OEM battery, as I purchased the radio brand new from Copper in May of 1995. I guess I haven't had the radio quite 10 years yet, but the battery has never had to be replaced. The battery should have the positive leadfacing up away from the CPU/PLL board. This is the same board that contains the 2 resistors that will allow frequency expansion. This is as extensive as my research on this subject went. I hope this helps.

Stickshift, thanks for the information. Like I said i've had two or three 5010s and never noticed a battery in them.
They must be good batteries, i've got a friend that's had one for at least 10 years and I know his has never been changed. If he has problems now, I can tell him to check the battery. Thanks, scrapiron |

Which is why I am puzzled.I just lost memory again on the third battery...something must drain it.This time I kept power on all the time and it lasted two weeks only..I have checked all traces on the underside of the board etc. and all looks brand new,,,I am at a loss and quite upset
There must be an answer please |

Nwleadfoot, I really like my astatic D104 in my mobile, but i would use a noise cancelling one if you have alot of noise. On my base I really like the sadelta echomaster mics. |

I'm still hoping someone knows what's up with this lithium battery going dead...it must have happened to somebody or some other radio....please do you know what it is like to have to set the n.b.,anl,5 steps to get band,switch vfo to 5 khz steps...set and then return..everytime i switch on due to no memory...lord have mercy
