I have searched around and read something somewhere about volting. what is it and what performance/power advantage would it bring and how do i do it I know it has something to do with changing the voltage that the driver and final recieve but thats about all i know would really like as much info as possible I have a pc68xl so if any one knows exactly what to do with this radio it would be cool I know just bye an amp or some thing but i like to tinker and see whats possible would also be cool to figure out a dual final setup for this radio

Sorry but I have never volted a radio.
If you use the Search area here on the forum there have been many posts on this topic from other Techs and Forum Members that will be of help.
I think some have been made in the last month if I remember right.
Or check the Modifications area for posts on this topic.

If the manufacturer wanted the radio to run at a higher voltage, they would have designed it that way. I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Thanks tech 808 Dx431 would you put an aftermarket air filter Say K&N for instance on your car if it made it run better and get better gas mileage?? just because it aint broke don't mean we cant make it better!! |

yeah but just think off all that dirt and extra stuff that's getting in your head and engine with those high flow filters. It restricts less but lets more stuff in. If you volt your final you are gonna make it run red hot and shorten the life. Get a good radio and just be donw. Plus if your running a amp you shouldn't need than much power out of a radio anyway |

Er, "high-flow filters" ? ?
More like "Nitrous Tank", seems to me.
Hold that nitrous button down a little TOO long, and you get holes in the pistons, seized rings, broken valve stems, etc.
Yeah, you can get more horses with nitrous. And only a tiny fraction of the service life that engine would deliver otherwise. Live fast, die young. An amplifier is much more cost-effective.

Yes, ONLY if you hold the button down too long. Personally, I I say run it with moderation and there should be no real probs. What I mean by moderation is not to be the local ratchet-jawed idiot that keys down for 20 min. at a time just to hear his/her own voice over and over etc...
BTW; Live Fast, Die Young, Leave a Good Looking Corpse. I will mod my radios and if I fry them then I will fix(or get them fixed) and try again. If a mod does not work as advertised, then I will un-mod it, and try something else. Just take your time between mods, play with the radio and see if the first mod is to your liking, if it is then go from there. Just remember we are curious by God's design just don't let that curiosity carry you away too far.

Hey, sure Walter.
After all, it's only money. How folks choose to spend it is their call.
My advice tends to cover what that money will buy. Some folks just want to hot-rod. Others value never having to pull the valve cover before 150,000 miles.
It's just a choice, no more. I do tend to suggest trying the radical tricks on the five-buck yard-sale specials, before smoking a new, expensive radio.
Still, it's only money.

I most definatly agree w/ you on that yard sale spec. mod bit. I don't enjoy it when I fry a nice talking radio and then can't use it untill I can fix it, or get the right parts to fix it. And you are right, as the old hot rodders taught me " Speed costs money; How fast do you wanna go?" Besides How many people out there actually go out buy a new radio, truck, car etc... and do every mod in the book before ever playing with it, The freq & clarifier mods I can understand being done first. but to go and drop alot of cash into a "toy" the first two min. of getting it don't sound like a smart idea. At least get used to it first, find the good, bad, and not pretty first.
Now if you already have had that "toy" and you are just replacing the first one for whatever reason then you should already know what you are getting yourself into.
