I'm looking for a kit where I can build my own cb. Is there anything out there that is good for a beginner, with parts, and step-by-step instructions? If not, what would be the best way to get started on something like this? |

No longer legal. The only way the design of the radio can be "certificated" (a word that came from a lawyer, no doubt) is for it to be factory-made. This has been the rule for almost 30 years. That's why the newest CB you'll find that was built from a kit is at least that old.
And that's why you don't see them offered for sale.

Yeah.. I'd love to be able to build one of those old kits. Keep checking that internet auction site, never know when one might surface. Sure to go for a pretty penny if one does show up. |

You can still build your own amateur radio. The K2 looks like a fun kit. |

Love kits just built a SCAF-1 Filter it is simular to DSP filters sold by radio shack.
It's ashame that you can't buy a CB radio kit.... Thoes old 1-5 ch kits were fun ..... Even internation crystal made one in the early 60's....... the good old days ..... |

i bought a Knight Safari 1 on @bay and found the build instructions and the manual from some guys on a tube forum. my plans are to rebuild the whole thing from scratch and hook my Olsen compressor/amplifier up to it.
that project is pretty far down the line though.

I dont care im with you on this stupid law VERY stupid law. JUST MY OPINION but if it was leagal when it was built then it should be LEAGAL unless you mod it! |
