Hello,
Want to upgrade my Super Star 3900HP Plus, to a digital freq counter,. This radio has the plug in socket for this option. What models of counters will also track, above and below standard 40 channels? Who has tried what and can help me decide on the right counter.

Thanks for the information.
Does that mean the Galaxy can track freq above and below 40 channels? Thought someone may have direct experence they could comment on, field experence with a product available thru Copper Elec. |

Hi Climber,
The reason for all those pins and wires on the counter "add-on" socket behind the radio? So that the display will read the correct frequency on all modes.
If you were to install an older-style "universal" display like the old PDC-256, EF-256 or such you would get an accurate reading ONLY one one mode. It would read wrong on the other two. We'll skip the long explanation why. The extra wires are hooked to the mode switch, and are there to inform the FC-347 or FC-390 display which mode you are on. That permits it to internally "adjust" the reading to match USB, LSB, AM, FM, or CW.
Likewise, it doesn't matter which band is selected on the radio. The FC-347 should work on all of them.

I am gratefull for all the help, from yourself and Tech 808. Trying not to find a "Add on Freq Counter" limitations after the sale. Sorry to come across as simple minded. Maybe I am? and can't tell the difference.
