I was browsing the cb radios section and came across the TR396F and was reading the features and I have a few questions. If it's an AM only radio, why did Texas Ranger put a Clarifier in it?? Does it work like a 10khz switch to get the Alpha channels? Whats the story on this? This is the first AM only rig I've seen with a Clarifier.

Probably like the delta tune on the older cobras. I think its for fine tuning your recieve when somebodys off freq a bit. Could be, hope I helped a little.

My understanding is that you don't need a clarifier on AM. If someone is that far off freq on AM, then they should take the radio in for an alignment. I never noticed any change when using the Delta Tune. Always thought it was a waste of space. Altho, it's a nice spot to add a variable output.

It only allows you to change the audio pitch, +/- a little,

A waste of circuitry, but it makes you think you have more value or something? Who knows -but you are correct. An AM receiver locks down on the carrier, no matter where it is, it sounds on freq. That is the whole purpose of using AM and wasting all that power in the carrier..

I agree the delta tune is nice to use for an add on like echo or variable power. I always wonder why they put that on there. Maybe for the very reason to add mods.
