i have a chance to get a cobra 2000 gtl from the same guy I got the new madison from and it has a seperate speaker with it too.He told me that he bought it new and this radio unlike the madison he did use but very little, it looks like new and befor I fork out $50.00 for it I want info on it like is it a good dependible radio and is it worth $50.00? like I said it looks new and he said it worked perfect when he packed it the box to store.
He is letting me try it befor I buy to make sure it works yet.

Any info would be great,
Thanks,

Roger,
Go for it.At the very least, you could double your money with the speaker alone at auction.Last one i sold went for $119.00 plus shipping!

Thanks for the advice, I brought it home today after work and the thing works perfect, this 2000 has a digital clock and a frequenct counter, fine and course clarifier and all knobs work like new.

the only problem is it has no instructions with it. It has push buttons I dont know what there for right under the frequecy counter that say dynalert-alarm/radio/set.

it looks new and works great, I am pleased with it and buying it tomarrow.

Roger, I don't think I can say enough about this deal on the 2000-GTL. The International Cobra 2000-GTL Association members are paying upwards to $500.00 for deals like you have found. If it's in the condition he says it is, It's worth upwards of $400.00. I would have had it bought yesterday. GET-R-DONE!!!!!. I sold mine 5 years ago with 2 speakers for $350.00, I knew it was worth more, but I needed the money at the time and needed a quick sale, 4 people wanted it. Just the speakers alone are selling at $150.00, if you can find a good one.

Roger, you can play with those buttons they are to set the clock and the alarm, it has the same thing as a regular digital alarm clock that wakes you up for work in the morning.

Yankee, it`s every bit like this guy said, it looks like new and works like new, clock frequency counter and has the box and foam inserts, just no instructions though. This guy has bought cbs when he was in his 20s back in 1970s early 80s and used some and stored some without even useing them. Just think I never would have known about these radios if he did`nt hear about me being into cbs while at work.

So far I have a new in box washington, like new in box madison W/one speaker and this 2000 GTL W/one speaker and it has a switch to run two speakers at the same time, I bet that sounds good.

He is going to give me a list of what he has yet and prices, I just dont have alot of extra money right now but he says there not going anywhere cause there stored at his parents house three hours away.

Does anyone know Where I can get instructions for this radio.

RX went bad , it will only receive if someone is in front of house talking . Best radio I ever had though . I am surely going to get it fixed , wheather right now , or later . I am currently using an old cobra 139xlr base , real good radio , but not a 2000GTL .

I see that this 2000 has a jack marked aux. and the instructions say you can hear receive and transmit from it, does that mean I will know how my signal sounds with a power mic and use this to adjust how it sounds?

geez airplane!!!

some of us have to search *bay for months to find those deals. you are one lucky guy!

as for being different than your madison, it is the same radio on the inside. the madison didnt have the freq. counter.

you have got two of the best cb's ever made in my opinion.
nice job!

Hey AP,
That "Aux" socket provides a "line level" signal that will match the "line" or "aux" input jack on a tape recorder. It does not have enough drive level to push headphones directly. The Aux socket will deliver the same audio level no matter where the volume control is set.

Outstanding deal you got there. You owe one to the guy who sold it to you that cheap.

Plane, that jack is a "line level" output for
your RX and TX audio and was mainly intened for
recording to a tape deck. You could use it as a talkback of sorts, but, you would have to hook up
an amplified external speaker to bring up the volume to listening level.
About the manual,if you wish to have an original
there are some on ebay now and then including the
schematics for anywhere from $5.99 to $15.99 +
shipping of course.
Congrats on the "great purchase" of the best CB base of it's time.(all time??) Pamper it well:-)
BTW: they do sound just beautiful w/2 speakers,
let alone just one!!! It would be well worth it to get another when the funds allow it.
Good luck and enjoy that 2000GTL.Slim CDX285

Just happened to get lucky, I bet there are alot of radios stored out there new and like new people forgot they have. just talk to people about your cb radio hobby and it might jog there memory,it happend for me and believe me this is the first time I got any kind of luck,I usually dont have any luck/LOL.

If I can figure it out again I will add some pics of these radios to my members pic area and my finally erected tower.

Roger, Real glad you're happy with your lucky finds, I know you'll have fun with the 2000GTL, as I did myself. I didn't like haveing to sell mine, but those things happen to the best of us.

AP, slim1 and 2600 actually did answer your question already, but here goes:

no, you cannot. the level coming out of that jack is just enough to feed a tape recorder. you would hear nothing or just next to nothing out of a speaker hooked up to this jack.

however, if you have some amplified speakers, (that plug into the wall, or battery op.) you may be able to turn them up loud enough to hear something, and in that case, yes you would hear your voice come through the speaker, just maybe not very loud.
hope this helps
matt

Thanks everyone who answered all my questions.
I am going to put it back in box and just hold on to it for now, I did`nt know what a find it was till talking to you all about it. I would hate to wear it out when it`s so nice a piece of history.
I will look on auction for an original manial and put it in box with radio.
I think I will do the same with my Madison and Washington. maybe I will use them once in a while.
