My 2517 seems to have more of a "hard static" compared to any of my other base units. It's not bad but worse than some others. I like a quiet recieve. Is this normal or is there a fix to quiet down the static. Its not a pulse, just a louder than normal......but whats normal, ha! Just for reference, its not the power pole transformer, and no electric fences. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Jamie4aday,

Sorry, but I have never heard of this type of problem before with a 2517 or know of anyone who has one around here to ask so I can't be of any help or offer any advice.

About the only two people I know of who owns a 2517 are Bigbob & KB.

And they both have many years of experience with them.

I will continue to check/search and see what if any information I can find to try and be of help.

Jamie4aday,

Below is the link for the Galaxy Tech Site and I found this.

DX 2517 SSB DISTORTION SYMPTOM:

Excessive SSB receiver distortion
PROBLEM:
Unstable VCO drive signal at IC2 pin 5
SOLUTION:
Replace R121 with a 5.6K ohm 1/8 watt resistor

Not shure if this is the type of problem you are experiencing or not.

I went to the galaxy website my self and no solution,a long time ago I presented this problem to 307 and he said there wasn't any problem that's what they sound like, but patzerozero is right there is too much white noise,so is there any mod for reducing white noise in the reciever, even ripping out transistors and putting in low noise subs. Please all techs answer.Bigbob

Well the dx2517 does have one fet but it's in the fm reciever, all the others are chips and bipolars, heck the ic chips don't even use fets in them, alot of noise makers in there.I read somewhere that there's a mod using 2 low-noise fets in the reciever front end, don't remember if they were add-ons or r and r's,darn my old brain.Bigbob

sometimes sarcasm sounds nastier then it really is bigbob! lots of radios have too much white noise. my magnum delta force has too much white noise yet it hears FANTASTIC! my S9 has NO white noise & hears just a tad better then the delta & it is THAT much more easier to listen to. MOST every galaxy i have ever owned or worked on had WAY too much white noise for my liking & also LACKED in the hearing dept. my opinion & my opinion only & i will always recommend to purchase something other then a galaxy if somebody asks me.
