I know one thing for sure, a stock powered sideband radio makes my in dash tach. act like a modulation meter. I haven't heard to much about power messing up a car's computer. This is on a Mercury Sable. I could guess that 200-300 watts could have some effect someplace in the car's electrical system, these newer cars are sometimes a strange breed. |

good ground is second to QUALITY coax. i run 900 watts & a magnet mount antenna in my '99 durango-the only RF interference i experience is when i push antenna all the way to back of roof-the 'lift gate open' light glows, though it could probably be eliminated by some toroids around the sensors wiring-if i could only find it! anyway, a 2 x 454 amp & a radio shack mag mount used to do all kinds of funky things with wipers, dashboard lights, tach, alarm, stereo, etc. i put a triple mag mount on, & replaced that HIGH QUALITY rg8x (which already calmed most of the situation) with 9913 double shield & silver/teflon amphenol pl259, & 99% of RFI is gone. moving antenna forward on roof & lift gate light stays off, 200 watt key/600 watt swing & stereo is fine, 275 watt/900 watt & i can hear myself in background on stereo-but that's it! |

Also, trunk mounted antennas will almost always interfere with the car's electronics, because the RF is going straight into the dash via the back window. Antennas mounted above the glass line ( center of the roof) will never cause problems, unless you run in excess of 550 watts pep, or you are using poor quality coax and jumpers. Hope this helps.
