I just got the Magnum 257 and want to conenct it directly to the battery. I'm a newbie so please bear with me. Does that mean "direct to the battery terminals"? Meaning just take the leads from the radion and run it through the fire wall and to the battery? Do I need any kind of inline fuse or noise dohicky?

Thanks!

Yes Run the wires directly to the battery and to the frame. Yes, I found that a noise dohickey would probobly help mine a great deal. This is a great little radio but I do get a lot of noise from my car.

So wire the red to the positive and the black to the neutral? I am assuming that the noise thing I can get at RatShack? Do I need a fuse? What do I contact to the frame?

Connect postive (+) red wire directly to the (+) terminal.

Connect (-) black wire to a good ground on the car metal.

Then start talking. You're gonna love that Mag 257..especially on SSB.

I run mine directly to positive & negative post of battery , and an inline fuse on each wire right at battery . I haven,t needed a noise filter but that will depend on the particular vehicle

yes Franzey,
red to positive post and black to negitive post or frame.copper has a good noise filter to use on the power leads.and most definitly use a fuse near the battery to protect the wire and the one included with the radio to protect it.

Another forum topics talks about fusing the wire to the terminal. What is the best way to attach the wire to the terminal so it doesn't slip off?

Franzey.

#1 ~ Slide a piece of Heat Shrink tape up the wire.

#2 ~ Crimp and Solder the connector to the end of the wire.

#3 ~ Slide Heat Shrink down and apply heat.

#4 ~ Apply Anti Corrosion jell or spray to the connector after connecting to battery posts.

#5 ~ ALL DONE.

How about air conditioner fan noise? When I run my fan on high it really gets noisy.

Oh, congrats Crackerjack on the 500th post and advanced class membership.

Lon,

It looks like those instructions are for piecing two wires together as opposed to attaching the final wire to the battery terminal. Am I correct? Thanks everyone for bearing with me...

Franzey,

Install the ends / Battery Connectors as I posted above with 1 end on the Red Wire going to the Positive Post / Connection of the Battery and 1 end on the Black Wire going to the Negative Post / Connection of the Battery.

It is the same if you are using the Stock factory power cord or the Power Cord Filters.

Seal or coat all connections to prevent moisture and corrosion.

Hope this helps,

Lon

Ahh I see. I will need to purchase the battery connectors. I assume they will have leads to go to the respective cables from the radio.

Thanks again for all the help!!

I'm using the 257 with a Wilson 5000. It should be a decent pairing.
