Everything works fine except there is no modulation. When I try to use the stock mike no modulation at all. It keys up and says full power but no one can here me. If I use a power mike I can be heard but just barely. Both mikes work fine on other radios. Anyone know what the problem is? I can listen but not talk. Someone told me you cannot use power mikes on this radio or it will blow something up inside the radio. Is this true?

Just a Suggestion, when I am wiring another Mic for the Magnum 257 or 6 Pin Magnum Radios with power to Pin #6 I Clip or Cut Pin #6 and remove it completely from the Mic Plug.

ie: Impossable to short anything on a pin that is not there.

Hope this helps,

Yes, the 257/357/557 radios do, maybe others.

But when only on the Magnum Power Mics.

Never wire up on other mics or remove the pin connectors all together.

The bottom line is that magnum gives a warning that connection of mics "LIKE" the RCI 2950, may cause damage ot the radio. That damage will manifest (one symptom) is loss of modulation.

Been there already!

At any rate, the other pin assignments are not the same either.

The mikes worked fine on another magnum 257 Just not on mine. I ordered the power mike from copper pre-wired to the 257. Something must be wrong inside the radio. I never clipped the limiter on the radio it had enough power already. In fact I didn't even get the copper tune up. So no one has been inside the radio. Thanks for the tip on pin 6 though.
Thanks for all the good advice
