I was wondering if an S-9 or Galaxy 93T or 95T turned wide open could cause the dashboard lights to come on or pull down the headlights? Does anyone run theirs wide open in the vehicle troublefree?

An S-9 souldnt but that 95T very well could. use large guage wire to the battery

The newer vehicles have more of a
chance of anything happening than
older vehicles./ When my friend keyed
up a 100 watt amp in his new Eagle it
shut the engine down, then when he unkeyed
his engine would come to life again.
Wouldn't of believed it, if i hadn't seen
it myself.
I would have to say the S-9 shouldn't.
95T iffy??? I have a 1993 Mazda car, i,ve
never had any problems with dimmed lights
or anything running high power.
If its a newer vehicle, contact where you
got it at and see if they might know.

large wire to the battery is helping to keep voltage to the radio. too much draw from the radio without any amp should not be a problem if you use at least the next size larger guage wire then on the plug, & go directly to the battery-NOT the cigarette lighter. at a traffic lite your 95t will probably make the headlights dim a bit, but that's what neutral & the gas pedal are for! not enough to worry about!
now mike, mike, mike. were you paying attention when i ranted about COAXIAL CABLE!!! 900+ watts swing from my davemade in my '99 durango & NOTHING happens-with a magnet mount no less! of course, if i put antenna ALL the way to back, the 'liftgate open' light flickers, move it a bit forward-NOTHING! anywhere else on roof-NOTHING!
(if i hammer my amp as hard as i dare on SSB, i can make the truck hesitate & buck, but that's a voltage issue, as noted by the ammeter immediately plummeting!!!)
anyway, a radio shack mag mount & ALL KINDS OF FUNKY things happened-with 150 watts. cutting the non-replaceable coax showed braid coverage to be non-existant, you know, the stuff that keeps the rf IN, & not floating around before it reaches the antenna. i replaced it with a triple magnet mount & some awesome rg8x-95% of problems disappeared. & to top it off, most ignition noise from my truck, & from crappy cars passing by me disappeared, as well as other atmospheric noises got quieter. for piece of mind, & to try to get 95% to 99% or better, i replaced that with 9913. it's a real pain to bend, but 900 watts doesn't affect the wipers-front or rear, ANY dash guages, & interference to the stereo is reduced to where i can key & still hear music-i'm just barely in the background!

Yes, any radio can effect the computer on newer cars/trucks depending on where it is located in the vehicle and where you have it wired for power.

Hey Mike, I have about a 150 watt setup in my car. 93 Chevy Corsica. ABS ,Air bags, power everything the works. It will dim my my curtisy lights and my headlights hardley noticable. The motor will slow down rpm at idle when I talk especially on sideband but never enough to kill the engine or worry me for that matter. Oh and I use 8 gauge for the amp and 10 gauge for the radio both positive and negative straight to the battery. Good luck man!!!

I have run 400w from the dashboard and never noticed a problem.

Now, I had a Dodge Custom Van with a V6, and plugging any CB into the lighter would kill the ignitian and send the van in for waranty work on the back of a tow truck.

However, that was a malfunction in the van's computer system and not the fault of the radio.

After 3 trips in for new chips, they found the problem. And while they don't agree, I do not think that wiring directly to the battery (which is a good thing) was a cure for the problem. I also doubt that it would have worked, and had it worked, I would not have trusted the van.

That was a serious problem that had a way of only becoming a problem when I was more than 400 miles from home. Problems like that should be fixed, not worked around.

After the fix, the van ran for another 140,000 miles without a hitch. Radio, Amp, Refrigerator and all -off the fuse block.

As long as the antenna is mounted above the glass, on the roof , smack dab center, you shouldn't have any problems. Make sure that you use "Quality" coax and jumpers, and the vehicle well grounded. I find that trunk mounted antennas when running power, can wreak havoc with dashboard electronics.

Wolverine, I've been wondering about that very thing. I've already scheduled to have a Wilson 1000 mounted to the top center of my old car. The reason I'm asking the question at the top is because I'm considering running either the 95T or a S-9 in the car. My only concern with S-9 is whether I will be heard from my workplace 30 miles away back in my hometown.

Mikefromms, it depends on the terrain. Are you talking 30 miles away from a mountain top, valley, or flat lands?. Will the channel that you will be talking on be clear, or full of traffic?. So many variables. How well put together is your set-up? But with the radios that you mentioned, I don't see why not.

With the strong modulation I read about on the S-9 I'm thinking it will do it's thing. The 95T, well, I know it will do it's thing, but I'm not sure it will fit under the dash of my car. Big radio. Another point, I can rule out an external amp with the S-9. It's strong as it is and requires too big of an amp for my car to handle. Anyway, no hurry for any changes just thinking ahead.

The terrain is hilly in places but mostly flat with few obstacles.
