My Cobra2000GTL is making static noise when I key up. It shows on my meter even if I shut mike gain and the gain on radio clear off. The guys say it almost wipes me out. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks

Hi Harve, Have you tried another microphone? Try cleaning The gain control if you're using a power microphone and the dynamike control on the radio, Could be dirty switches in the microphone,Check all the wires on both ends of the microphone cord to be sure none are touching. Beond that have the componates in the microphone circuit of the radio checked. These thoughts are a start, good luck with it.

Yankee, I have already tried all this. I am lost as what to do now. The nearest repair shop is 90 miles away and I can't drive due to my health. They took that privilege away from me. I guess I will have to figure out another way to get it fixed. Thanks for your help.

It's my understanding that in these and similar chasis, the audio ic chip will and does go out. This may be the beginnings of that.

It is IC6, a TA7222P.

Does/did the radio have talk back? A wire for that or even the mic plug in the radio may have loosened and is shorting/grounding.

Viking, It does not have talk-back. I will definitely check the audio chip and the mic plug. Thanks for the info and I will let you know
what comes of it.
