I have a magnum 257 and I am thinking of adding an amp a little later on and would like to know what amp would be good with this radio. I bought from copper and it has the tune and 11 meter mod if this helps. I was thinking of somewhere between 300-500 watts. thanks for any info that can be provided because I really dont know much at all about amp's. thanks.

Navyrebel782003,

So far we have used the KL-60, KL-300P, KL-500 and KLV-1000 with our Model 257 and had Great results with all of them with the Model 257.

Hope this helps,

808, thanks for the info also, and if you say it will work then I will take ya'll's word for it. it may be a while before I get one but want to start looking early so I can find what I really want you know, dont like rushing into things. also, with these amps, would I turn the RF down all the way to run these, I am thinking so but thought I would ask.

navyrebel782003, i have 2 klv amps that i've NEVER even tested yet, but they seem to be developing a fairly good reputation. texas star has been my preference for commercially made amps for 20 years-have NEVER had a problem with 1 being used as intended. xforce/magnaforce are copies of davemade-all EXCELLENT custom made amps. the magnaforce would be the preferred amp if you use SSB a lot, though it is a fine AM amp as well. if you use a lot of SSB you would need to make sure the x force & dave made have SSB delays in them. as for biasing for SSB vs AM, if you adjust the radio conservatively it makes little difference.
