This may be a very stupid question, but is the metal ring that come with the wilson 1000 mag mount supposed to be used with it or is it just some piece for show?

Thanks,

Mikefromms,

The Metal ring /washer is only used for packaging to keep it upright in shipping and for display.

I used mine more than once to secure the antenna to non-ferrous metals I was using as a counterpoise.

I used my Wilson 1000 as a temporary base antenna in my attic and the ring held the heavy duty aluminum foil (which I was using as a counterpoise) to the base very well.

I also used it to secure the antenna to an aluminum folding table in my back yard so I could radio outside on a very nice day.

I would imagine you could use it along the same lines to secure the antenna on an aluminum trailer or vehicle cab. How fast you could go I'm not sure, but at the very least you could use it while stationary.
