ive seen coppers has the old 148 back not the soundtracker any reviews on it?front mic connector i like that concept.is the inside like the old or is it a 148 soundtracker in digise |

it's a copy of the old phillipines- & malaysian-made radio now made in china. only recurring experience i've had with a newer china-made 148 was to mod it for channels, slide & basic peak, tune & vary. it pretty much was exactly the same as my 1995 grant XL(phillipines-made) in receive quality & basic xmit tuneup results. 6-7 months later it was working FINE when i set up a dx350 in THE DUMP TRUCK this 148 is used in. both pieces STILL sound & work FINE. |

Whats so bad about the Sound Tracker 148? I admit it needed alignment and some reciever and transmit mods but mine is the best sounding one I know of. |

the 'soundtracker' part was the only thing 'wrong' with it. leave the soundtracker off & it was fine. |

glad u have good luck with it hotwire. i had nothing but bad luck with them mine didnt like channel mods or claifer too unlock a full 5kc.the boards inside arent as good either.been told that by numerous respected shops here in pa |

You guys are complaining because a radio would not gleefully accept illegal modifications? That hardly seems like a fair complaint.
PLEASE! Re-rate the radio based on operation AS-IS. That is the fair way to do it.
Obviously, if you desire illegal operation, you should steer clear of a radio unwilling to accept these illegal modifications. But, for those who do not care about all that, is it a good radio or not? THAT is what we want to know! |

i didn't say there was anything wrong with it. i just wasn't happy with what the soundtracker function did to the receive-it actually made WEAK signals more difficult to hear, & louder signals in the noise were increased in ability to copy. |

Oh,the sound tracker kind of mimicked FM stronger signals took precedence over weaker ones,the weaker ones being made weaker or totally blanked out and the stronger given prominence,mmmhmm.Bigbob |

The soundtracker in my 148 kinda narrows up the band enough to rid of about 99% white noise and splatter. At far distances it will clean up things enough to hear a weak signal better. Thats just for a weak signalbut astronger signal will have less noise static with it and is somewhat pinched up sounding. As far as it helping me transmit better? Yeah right! If I had my tech do the same I would buy another 148, the one I have now is on its third season of summer heat baking in ny work park lot and been through 3 long cold Indiana winters. Oh yeah and a head on collission at 55 mph! One tough radio and still walkin the dog! |
