ok here we go it shows recieve on the meter...but no sound out of any external speakers i use. yes they all work but not on this radio.. and yes it is on cb not pa. and yes the rf gain is all the ways up and yes i have 2 mikes that are for the radio . the radio tx very good good audio out but nothing on rx. i even tried the screwdriver trick touching the switch wire to the key wire.
NOW HERES WHERE IT IS EVEN MORE INTERESTING.
if i plug a set of earphones into the aux adapter i can hear my self talking from my other radio very quietly but at least i can hear something.
i changed the ta7222ap audio transiter. no luck but tx audio is even better....still no recieve.
this 2000 is mint otherwise...really want to fix it. thank you honkytonkman593

Can you get the PA to work? The audio goes through the PA swtich, headphone jack and the speaker switch before getting to the speaker. Check these.

Also check caps. They tend to go bad. Check C175.

honkytonkman593, vikings suggestion is spot on.

there are a bunch of electrolytic caps in that radio that are rated at 10 volts. i recommend replacing all of them with 16 volt caps.
one of these 10 volt caps (cant remember which) will kill all receive audio if it goes. the conditions you describe are the exact symptoms of this cap going bad.
there is a yahoo group especially for 2000gtl owners. join the group. they have schematics, owners manual, and service manual in their files section. check it out!!!

To me it just sounds like rf amp transistor that we all replace with 2999 is bad. Off hand I can't remember tr. #. Try that if you haven't already.

Hello just to be sure lift one wire on each
speaker jack at a time with headphones as
i have seen the jacks short out. I think
you have 2 speaker jacks and a pa as for the
rf amp transistor i don't think thats it you'll
not see your rf meter move if thats out. If you
want the sams its CB-251 with this in hand you'll
find out what jack it comes in on frist.
