I just picked up an Emperor 5010 in an auction. It'll kill me to wait until it shows up to find out so I figured I'd ask - what kind of wattage should I expect to get out of this radio on AM and SSB?

well if it is done right you should get 50 watts on ssb an around 25 or so on AM... i must have spent 3 weeks setting mine up even before i hooked up to the imax.. an man when i did was amazed at it.. nice clean clear aduio. swing it had AM was very good.. i had mine set to swing 5 to 25... i think you will be very pleased... i am kicking myself i sold mine but hey whatcha gonna do.. |

Is it the same physical size as most DX style radios? Say the Cobra 148/Galaxy 99/2950 ? |

it's worth whatever YOU'RE willing to pay for it, 747. only thing even reasonably close to it is the lincoln. lincoln=HR2510=TS5010, get it, fifty-10, twenty five-10, they wanted it to compete with the 2510 20 years ago or whenever they came out. & it did fairly well actually. so you paid roughly 1/3 what it would cost for the closest thing brand new. i've seen them on e-auctions go for over $200 used & a NIB one went for over $400. ouch! |

Excellent all round mobile rig.Needs R.I.T. mod to make it that much better and with alc tuned you can easily get 50 watts.Just be careful when turning up a.m. power.There is a threshold and then your audio will go in the tank.Look for 25-30 watts a.m.I have owned mine since 1993 and would never part with it.Great audio,great receive and good coverage all in a neat package.I use my D-104TUG8 in the mobile just barely turned up with the mike attenuated on the radio.This gives me 2-14 watt swing on sideband.From there into an old Elite 225 and out the roof thru a Hustler HQ-27 whip on a magnet mount.Basically if I can hear someone,I can talk to them.The antenna is older than the radio but both still work like new.You got a keeper dude ...good luck with it! |
