Finding info is like pulling teeth on this radio.
Any of you techs know the clarifier mod details?
thanx

Google Search on;

Euro 3900 and Euro 3900 Clarifier

I found channel mods and power mods and possibly the clarifier mod, but I am unable to check that page because I am at work and our system has security in place that won't allow me to go to certain sites. (anglefire, geocities, etc...)
Luckily it will allow me to come to Copper.

Hope you can find them on your own.
If not, I'll check back tonite when I can go to those restricted sites from home.

Nope, I've tried Google, Dogpile, AOL search, CB specific search engines. Nuttin panned out. Typically get the basic channel mod, and "turn these pots all the way" for power lol
You're not gonna find it via search engine methinks.
thanx!

I would think that the mod you want would be nearly the same on about all radios with the fine/coarse clarifyer. Galaxy/uniden. On your coarse pot does it say how many ohms it is? If it does then resolder the wires to a new potentiometer of the same ohms or even nearly the same ohms. Now mount the new pot in the clarifyer hole. Put your fine tune knob on 12 o'clock center, remove the knob and JB weld the shaft in place and tape it up and tuck it into the case. Also experimenting with different ohm potentiometers will give you more or less slide.

I had a older Grant that had very little slide and using a different ohm'd pot I could make it slide nearly 2 full channels. It was impossible to use in the mobile that way but I used it as a base and it worked fine. It's been years, but I believe I used a squelch pot out of a junker I had for the Grant. If you cant find the info you want specific to the Euro 3900 you can experiment with this. BTW, I used to have a Euro 3900, orderd thru Copper.. Didn't like it, It had a problem with the recieve fading out to dead silence. When you key it up then full recieve was restored, then slowly fade out again.. By slowly fade out.. I mean it took maybe 20 to 30 minutes of sitting untill the recieve quit.

I have considered doing just what you suggested.I'm in no rush, to do the mod.
Actually this one also had a similar rx problem.
It was poor soldering around an IF can. Get this, the speaker has the largest magnet I've seen in a radio. The magnet was resting on the can! Causing the problem. I installed a 2950 speaker and solved it.

Ok I didn't even concider that the speaker was grounding out onto a can in that thing. haha Good on you for finding/cureing that problem!
I sold my euro-3900 on a well known auction site and it brought very nearly what I had in it money wise. :-)
I actually like the fine/coarse tuning pots. I flattend out the detent in my coarse pot on this 148gtl-dx i'm running and now I love the way it tunes. It's great on SSB when someones a little off freq, You can tune them in without changing your TX freq.
