OK..I have this General Lee radio. Whatever channel the radio is on when it's first turned on, it's on freq correctly. If you turn the channel knob, the radio will be off freq unless you turn the radio off and back on.

I was going to change the channel selector, but I have one from a Galaxy and they are different. I noticed that most Galaxy radios use a channel board and this radio doesn't. Under the channel selector, all of the components from a Galaxy channel board are installed in the PCB.

My question is what do you guys think is causing this problem? Could it just be a diode in that section gone bad or could it be one of those IC's? Has anyone here had this problem. I keep laying this radio down and then returning to hunt some more. I've tried everything I know to hunt the problem down and I can't find it.

I've also noticed that when checking the top of R151 for the 10.695mhz reference that it will sometimes start off correct but then start going crazy and running up to around 12 or 13mhz, yet the radio sound perfect and on key up a inline freq counter shows perfect frequency.

For craps and giggles I changed every crystal in the radio just to make sure...

porkchop, i would've checked the crystals, too!
try checking a connex 3300 channel selector, don't have 1 to see if it's different setup then galaxy, but the connex IS rebadged as a general lee or general washington. the difference between the lee & washington? lee has a confederate flag, washington has an american flag! nothing like good ole american ingenuity to get you to buy a different product, huh?

Darn, I didn't know that!. It's like a ford/mercury, or toyota/lexus thing. I wonder how many other radios are re badged as something else, to get the general public to buy.

Well I could say a lot of what I think the problem is, but I'm not gonna pull a Pat.

I just want to fix the stupid thing and set it free...

the connex is a HAIR different then a galaxy 33...as is the 4800dxl/general grant/rci6900 vs galaxy 95t. they use the same chassis...or do they? CAREFULLY, VERY CAREFULLY compare a GALAXY to one of its 'brothers'-or could that really be a cousin, or even farther separated relative then we all think....

Well if you look close at the General under the channel selector you will see the same IC's that are in the channel board in most Galaxy radios and I've seen a few Connex radios with channel boards. The diodes and all look about the same too. I just need to find a good board to salvage the parts from, assuming this is actually my problem to begin with.

I can't believe nobody else has had this problem yet?

Well, OK, I guess I'm turning out to be a better Tech than I thought I would.

The problem is the channel IC's and resistor banks located next to them. Unless you want to buy these new, you can salvage some from an older Galaxy channel board.

Once I replaced these after checking and replacing the crystals (for good measure) I also changed the PLL. I got a good reference off the old one, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try it. Still no luck, so I moved to the channel IC's and resistor banks...it works fine now.

So if you are having a similiar problem, try this first and see if it helps your headache!!
