Grumpy,

NOTHING needs to be Swaped Out!

The PC78 ELite is a GREAT RADIO right out of the Box and a REAL TALKER!

You may want to add a DM-452 Hand Mic and NO ONE will be able to tell the difference on the other end between your PC78 Elite and a any other radio on the other end.

And the Quality of your Antenna will also make a MAJOR Difference.

If you want more OOMPH just add a KL40 or KL60.

Hope this helps,

Lon

Heck yeah!! Unidens are great!! As far as swap this and swap that, there are some good mods like channel gaurds. Interesting though, I was out the other day and heard a driver talking about a tech who charged him 80 bucks to put these Galaxy finals in his Cobra 29. This sounds fishy to me. What the heck are galaxy finals and where would you even buy a new set of Galaxy finals anyway? Sounds like a rip.

Hotwire,

YOU MEAN YOU HAVE NEVR HEARD OF THE FAMOUS GALAXY FINALS.

IT IS A WELL GUARDED SECRET OF THE FAMOUS GOLDEN SCREWDRIVER TECHS.

The Galaxy Final's real name is RIP OFF!

The sad thing is most people pay 3 or 4 times as much for having a Golden Screwdriver Tech slap a 1969 final in a radio and calling it a Galaxy Final.

I tried to do a product search for the hand mike DM 452, and nothing came up. Looked under microphones, not there either. Is this a power mike?, or is it a good sounding loud stock mike?, Is it pre-wired for a 4- pin uniden already? Post a link please. Tired. I'm going home, have a nice weekend everyone.

Grumpy you will be very pleased with the Elite PC78. I have one in my truck and the audio was loud with the stock mike. For the heck of it I put a DM452 on it and it really booms now. Hears very well too. I run a lot of SSB from the base but if I didn't the PC78 would be all the radio I'd ever run! I have been running two of the newer Magnums on the base and have been pleased with the way they work on SSB.

To put in dual finals you'll also need the 2166 driver and all the associated caps and inductors and vr's for proper tuning and stray rf handling and the tech would then ask you why not buy a galaxy or magnum with them already in for less money?Bigbob

Maybe that's why I can imagine Patzerozero, walking down the street with a shotgun, looking for any empty mobiles with a galaxies in them ..
