Then that would probably be a good choice. Or some other small radio and put a small amp under one of the seats. Keep it turned on, but wire it with a relay so it comes on when the car is on and off when you switch the car off.

That's all I can think of man!

I would try the Cobra 20 XTR with maybe a peak and tune. Simple and cool. They are a good price and are really good talkers. Believe they even come with an antenna.

I also would suggest the Uniden 510xl. It is a good little unit for the money. A friend of mine has one and it does alright. It never hurts to put a power mic on these little radios for more punch.

Both of those radios are in my mind hotwire i had a pro-510 with talk back and it sounded like a BIG radio with an echo mic turned on to the reverb audio just a hair.I put the 1969 final in it but i could never get the carrier above 6 watts which is prolly all you can get anyway.I got the 510 for free and the speaker was amputated so i used an external speaker and i had people that thought it was a galaxy. One mistake i made was unsoldering one side of the amc diode and everyone said what a piece of $%^& radio i put it back and people said wow!!Does anyone know any good power mods for this radio?
Like where does the driver final go? can i put a 2sc1957 in for the driver?

Sorry I can't answer your last question BUT I truly think your on the right track with the 510 or Cobra 20 radio right out of the box. Cheap no frills QUALITY radios. Drop a DM452 on either and Mom will talk BIG. :-) Don't forget a QUALITY antenna..It'll make or break whatever radio you install....but you knew that already :-)

The DM452 for sure would be my first choice followed by the mobile Astatic d104 and then the Road Devil. Sorry, I'm not a tech so I can't comment on the last 2 questions.
Midland also makes a neat little radio.
