I don't want to come off sounding nuts, but I have some ? I probably already know the answer too. Is S9 a vast improvement over my old SS3900? Can I talk on the CB freq's with this radio? Ect. Ect. Wife said I could get a new radio so I want a good one.

part of my questioned I got answered from reading coppers web site about the radio, now I have another question. What does the tune up copper offers do besides making it where I can use it on the cb band? Will the radio still be able to get the 10 meter freq's since I amgoing to workon getting my fcc licsense. Will the clarifier be wide open, or does that mod not apply onthis radio, and what about modulation? I had a mod done to my 3900 years ago for the modulation. I also have my super star turned down to a watt and a half because it's driving my texas star modulator which is driving my texas star 500amp. Please help so I can get the radio ordered and in my jeep before the end of the week, well week and a half anyway. I have ants in my pants for a new modern kick butt radio.

you will not need a modulation mod for this radio.
they did one at the factory.
honestly, i've never heard a radio sound that good stock, on a stock mic.

you cannot run that amp with the S9. the power output is too high. others on here can offer more details.

Well I just ordered the S9 with tuneup.
Lon will I have to turn the power down on the radio to 1 1/2 watts like i did on the 3900 before feeding it to the Texas star modulator, and then from the modulator to the TS 500 amp? Hope that makes sense. I'm tired, and I'm going to hit sack. Also where canI go to find out what I need to do for starting on the fcc stuff?

All those mods you listed are done already by Magnum..:-)

With the Top Gun modulator switch "ON" and the RF power tuned down you will DK 1.5w and swing at least 30w to 40. You won't need your modulator for the TS500 anymore for this radio.
The modulation is as loud with the stock mic as it is with a power mic..you'll need NO modulation mods....it's been said before...this rig is HOTROD right from the factory. Never a bad option to have Coppper techs go through and align if needed though.
As for what Copper does to them other than the Freq mod...I "Believe" they check all factory specs and fine tune/align them...but that last one is best left for Copper techs to answer to be sure.
You won't be dissapointed with an S-9!

Wild rat
Dont use the modulator in line with the set up, Just hook up the TS500 to the S9 and go to town!
The S9 is enough of a "modulator" on its own!!!

Wildrat,

Here is some information From Sam Lewis on using amplifiers with the MAGNUM "S" series of radios using the TOP GUN BOARD.

The Following tips are Direct from Sam Lewis at RF Limited and Designed to give you 100% use of your Radio's when using an Amplifier with them.

Owner's of the MAGNUM RADIO's S-3 ~ S-6 ~ S-9 and S-45 Omega Force and Other Radio's that will be using the TOP GUN BOARD, need to read the Following Owner's Tip's.

TIP #1

AMPLIFIER USE with the NEW TOP GUN BOARD!

NOTICE!

These Radio's were NOT designed to be used with 2 Pill Amplifiers!

These New Radio's with the NEW TOP GUN BOARD'S are designed to be used with an AMPLIFIER that has at Least 4-2879's or more, that need's NO Driver / Exciter Stage.

The Ideal Amplifier for use with the Omega Force S-45 or Magnum S-3 / S-6 / S-9 is the Texas Star 500 with 4- 2SC2879's. With NO DRIVER / EXCITER Stage.

These Radio's with the TOP GUN BOARD were designed to eliminate the need or use of a Driver / Exciter.

For use with other Amplifier's that Use a Driver/Exciter such as the Texas Star 667 that uses 1-SC2290 driving 4-2SC2879's you need to READ the following instructions.

Be Very careful that the Power to the Driver / Exciter is set to NO more than 4 watts and NO More than 12 watts PEP.

Otherwise you will have too much Gain going into the Driver.

It is highly recommended that you have a Professional Set these adjustments for you.

These Tip’s are to help you achieve Top Performance and help you to avoid any problem's that may arise.

As Sam continues to inform me of additional Tip's / Trick's on the RF Limited Product's, I will be posting them for the Owner's of these New radio's.

Hope this helps,

Lon

That sounds better, so I can use my Texas Star 500 with the S9, and I can use my modulator with one of my other radios. (LON TECH808) how should I adjust the S9 to use it with the 500? For instance with my old setup that being the 3900,TS Mod.,and TS500. I had the radio deadkey at 1 1/2 watts, mod. about 3/4 of the way turned up and the amp whatever level I put it on. Will I need to go inside the radio and turn it down? etc. etc. I guess you can see I know nothing about the S9. Pleas don't get annoyed with me and my questions assoon as get the radio and start playing with it I'm sure it'll all be understood.

S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9S9!!!

turn the variable rf power output knob on the front of the radio down to its lowest point, as well as mic gain(with stock mic) to about 12 o'clock, topgun ON, & turn variable rf power output knob UP til you see amplifier dead key about 125-150 watts. it should then swing from 400 up. turn mic gain UP til they tell you to STOP!!!
anybody within a few miles will probably tell you it's scratchy, that's from the topgun. turn it OFF for locals, ON for long distance/DX.
that was for AM. for SSB, turn mic gain DOWN to about 10 o'clock, with topgun ON, turn mic gain UP til you see 400+ watts swing, & they tell you to STOP!

you will then have a radio with AWESOME receive, that is AWESOMELY loud, & AWESOMELY clear.

other then it's brother, the omega force, there IS NO FINER RADIO THEN THE S9 AVAILABLE TODAY!!!

spent mucho time in largo, up off clearwater-largo rd & rosary back in late 80's. used to take a week vacation at least 3 times a year at uncles mobile home right there, til late 90's when he passed away. i practically grew up with the area, watched US19 transform from hiway with traffic lites to freeway today, bay bridge at mcmullen-booth, the bridges before they were replaced-sand key/CWB to bellair beach, the ongoing construction at north end of clearwater beach/causeway to downtown
clearwater/scientologists compound, & just the general buildup of the whole area. wife, 2 kids & no more uncle means we have to pay for lodging, but still get there at least once each year

Aircop12,

Right now I have 1 of the 1st 10 of the S-6-80 radios here and Dennis Tech291 will be driving over from OH. tonight to also Test/Use it.

So far it is GREAT and matches/exceeds all specifications!

I called Sam and he said the 1st batches of the S-6-80 and S-3-80 will arrive sometime in February of 2006 and then be sent to dealers.

I will have one of the 1st 10 of the S-9-80's to test in about a week and 1/2 he said.

The 1st shipment of the S-9-80's should arrive sometime in March 2006 and then be sent to dealers.

the dx1600 is an 8x2879 amp, requiring a max of 40 watts carrier and/or 160 watts PEP input. that # should start off lower, & work upwards til about 250 watts dead key & 800+ swing is seen from the amp. fans are a must.

therefore, the 175 watter would drive it to full output, the 80 watter would drive it to 1/2 or more of full output, the current 40 watter will get anywhere from 300-500 PEP, depending on the REAL output from the S9. with 18 watts RMS swing/near 40 PEP swing, my S9 shows about 60 watts dead key & 350 swing on a diamond sx100 meter with the dx1600 powered by 2 optima yellow top batteries & a battery charger on 40 amp charge.

the mod v & S9 will not work well together, if you can make 'em work together at all. a dx1200 MAY show just as much output as the dx1600, maybe even more, with a 40 watt S9.

almost sounds like I would be better buying a DX500V and just keep the 1600 sitting on the shelf

Thanks
