Would I reap any benefit co-phasing my wilson silver tips on my jeep or would I be wasting my time? |

Wildrat,
Personally I would just use a Single Antenna such as the Wilson 1000 or 5000.
Co-Phased antennas are great for Big Trucks that cannot mount a single antenna on the roof of the cab but for a Jeep just stick with a single antenna.
Why use 2 antennas to try and get/equal the performance of a single antenna?
And the SWR is a LOT easier to set on a Single antenna over a set of duals.
Just my personal thoughts on Dual Antennas,

I agree with lon the cophasing of antennas is tricky at best. |

and it only works if you can get the two antennas exactly 102" apart. how wide is your jeep? im guessing not that wide.
i think some traffic lanes are only 8 feet wide.
cophasing mobile antennas is a marketing ploy for truckers in my opinion. (no flames please!)

You can cophase as small as 54 inches but cophasing is just not worth the time on a car. |

10-4, I got the shipping notice on the S9. I guess I will see it in few days. I guess it doesn't take long for copper to tune the radio. I ordered the radio saturday night at 11:39 and they already have it shipped. I guess it doesn't take long to tune since according to everyone it's ready to go out of the box. (TECH808 LON) do you know what they do to the S9 when they do the tuning. The other fellas have told me the shop makes sure that is all tuned to factory specs, and some other things. What do they do specifically to the S9 to cause it to function better? I guess since I have another Wilson silver tip ,and co-phasing cable coming in the mail, I will put the antenna on my wifes truck and make a regular coax out of the pre built co-phasing coax. |

dont do that wildrat!!!
that cophasing cable is 75ohms!
you will have a very high swr if you use that cable in any other way than cophasing.

Oh well Guess I'll put the co-phasing cable up. When I get my big diesel truck for hauling my motorcycles around I'll use it on it. In other words the cable will Gather dust with the other things I might need one day.

The Information below is from the Copper Forummaster.
Here are the areas that we align.
• RX (Receive) alignment per manufacturer specifications
• TX (Transmit) alignment per manufacturer specifications
• PLL Synthesizer alignment per manufacturer specifications

wildrat, a radio like the S9 is tuned for 28 to 29.7 mhz from the factory.
if you bought one and did the conversion yourself, you would notice that the performance on 27.185 (ch.19) would be somewhat less than the performance on say, 28.305. (someone hitting you at S9 on 28.305 might hit you with S7 on ch.19)
all normal CB radios are tuned on ch.19 (or 20) which is smack dab in the middle of the CB range.
so since your radio after the mod will cover 26.000 to 30.000. the new center point to align teh radio at would be 28.000mhz. or somewhere near that.
it is DEFINITELY worth the money to have it done by a pro.
