mp antenna pole is drove in to the ground,plus i have a ground from the pole to a water pipe, ,and the low pass filter is grounded to a water pipe,i also unhook the coax and put the end ina gallon glass jar ,i wonder if tha is enough

First thing I would do is get rid of the glass jar. If lightening strikes your ant, it will travel down your coax and you will have glass all over your radio room. The best thing to do is, get a SO239, solder a heavy gage wire to it, and attach the other end of the wire to a ground rod outside your shack.The next thing I would do is get another ground rod and attach the ground wire for your ant to that.The same goes fro the radio equipment. I never did like grounding anything to the water pipe.

You guys have the wrong idea.. The thing you want is to keep the lighning OUT of your house! Using a PL-259 with a heavy wire to ground still invited lightning to travel down your coax into your house. We have discussed the glass jar thing to the point of ridiculous, so I will not go into it here.
A Polyphaser installed at the cable entry point will keep the lightning out of your house. |

Tech833 - Getting ready to start setting things up tomorrow so when the gear gets here I can put it up plug it in and go.
So my Question - Do I want the Polyphaser INSIDE or OUTSIDE the house???
Missed the glass jar discussions, I will have to search for the posts as someone told me it would work but sure didn't sound right to me.
Also what is with this setup that I have seen on a number of sites showing three ground rods in a triangle layout with ground wire going to each in a circle - I don't get it. |

Sinker,
I was on phone with Tech833 when this was posted.
He has his inside like I do but his advice is get it as CLOSE to where the Coax enters the house outside or inside.
My setup is less then 3-1/2 feet from where the Coax enters the house and the Ground Rod is located.

My Polyphasers are mounted on a Polyphaser panel unit that is 10 inches inside the building. There is one monster ground cable from that panel to the 8 foot rod outside the building. That rod is bonded to 4 others around the property using #2 copper cable buried a few inches under ground. Also, I have a #10 copper wire fan ground system for my RF ground and it is also bonded to the main ground system. So I have lightning ground AND RF ground well covered. |

I need to build a new house with RADIOS in mind and have Tech833 set up the radio station. Bet I could make a contact then.

Sure... Sinker.... $140 per hour plus expenses and I will build your radio station. Do it all the time...
Better yet, just ask questions and get them answered for free right here on the Copper forum and save yourself about 50 grand.

Cornbrown The Top One toppled and broke before it even got up on the roof. It looked really cool till it fell over though. I do see another one in my future but need to save a little cash first as I have spent a good bit recently on things to get on air. Ordered up the Maco V-5000 and the KLV-1000. The KLV should be here tomorrow but my radio is back at Copper being tuned for use with the KLV. The Maco V-5000 antenna must be on back order or something as it still has not yet shipped from Copper. Will call them tomorrow on it and see whats up.
Tech833 You probably have forgotten more than I will ever know about this stuff. Those links were GREAT thank you as the method I was tyeing all my grounds together was not the correct method. Also working the Polyphaser to be just outside the office. Trying to do this right the first time and certainly APPRECIATE ALL YOUR ADVICE AND HELP - BIG THANKS !!! |
