Actually I have two of these, and I'm seeing the same thing with both. Originally I thought the first radio had a problem, so I tried the other and it does the same thing. What happens is that if I have the radio on and then I start my truck, the display goes blank. No backlight or anything, but the radio is still on and receiving. I have to turn the radio off and back on, then the display works again. They don't "lose" the freq they were last on either. I spoke to a guy the other day who has an original (amber display) 2950, and he says he's never seen that with his. Is this normal behaviour for the DX version? I can't imagine that both of these radios would have the exact same "problem", but I guess anything is possible. If this really is a problem, how can I fix it?

Just my opinion and I believe this to be true from the bottom of my heart. You should never start your vehicle while your radio or amp is on! Also, they way my car works is for example, when key is cranking motor it shuts off all electical accesories. This is why I would wire direct to battery if you have something with a memory. I would say your problem is starting the vrhicle with the radio on if it doesnt mess up any other time. Could just be operator error and not a radio problem.. lol Welcome to the Coppewr forum BTW Besure to get your CEF # so you can with all of us on Sundays. |

You're probably right about it being the way it's connected now. I haven't come up with a permanent mounting for it (have to be some sort of hump-mount), so right now I have it plugged into the lighter socket. This is my first microprocessor radio, and I guess I can't expect it to behave the same as all my "vintage" radios. Thanks! And thanks for the welcome! never do that to a computer controled radio the lighter socket looses power when cranked and in return it messes with the computer in the radio! if you can't wire it to the battery atleast run it to a constant power fuse! |
