Does anyone do any mobile scanning? I have a Radio Shack magnet mount scanner antenna but I think it stinks. I get alot of poping and static. Does anyone know of a better mobile scanner antenna?

fire stick makes a great ant. its 18.99 and works on a standard 3/8X24 threaded mount..i used one for months untill i moved my scanner inside...it was annoying to reset the lockouts every time i went into an area with different "birdies"

Try a truck stop. My mobile scanner antenna was bought at the trukstop that used to sell Galaxys. Its called the BEAR TRACKER. Works great between 108-900 MHZ. Cost about 30 bucks and is 19 0r 20 inches long.It has a mirror mount or you can drill a hole and mount that way.

I'm surprised you don't like that antenna. Every volunteer fire policeman in my area seems to have one on his car.

I use a 2 meter unloaded 1/4 wave whip for scanning (I got it free with a scanner I bought) and it works well. Of course if your area of interest is low band VHF, UHF, or 800 MHz you won't get the best performance.

If you want gain on those bands you might want to buy a multiband amateur antenna that covers 6M, 2M, and 440 MHz.
