I recently installed an amp on my Pres Madison. Now every time I key the mic I turn on lights all over the house, low, med, high, off, low, med, high...etc (touch lamps). The wife doesn't think it's funny when she is trying to sleep. The amp is a palomar 450 running on low power switch. Is there anything I can do to remedy this aside from getting rid of the wife (last option)?

looks to me like you have a rf problem,i would check it out before using it any length of time

My setup activates the touch lamps also. I think it's funny.

there is something you can do inside the touch lamps that will stop the interference.
i dont remember what the cure is off hand, but i did see it recently on the net.
if we all try and search for the cure, someone will find it.

A friend of mine has a touch lamp in his living room that i can set off from the end of his driveway (even barefoot). I see this is not an uncommon problem. |

Buy the wife a brand  shiny set of lamps to replace those horrific touch lamps. Or you can just throw the lamps away and tell the wife, " OMG! We've been burgularized"!! Make sure to pretend some of your radio stuff is missing too, just to make it believable and she may get you a another radio if you get more non touch lamps! WARNING Trying to out smart women can be a hazard to your health. |

rewire the lamps or buy new ones and this:
The Clapper Sound Activated On/Off Switch
Won't even have to touch them and RF has no effect... Don't ask me how I know.

We women are pretty much *all knowing* of both Children's and hubby's tricks!  ... Just buy her some beautiful new lamps (I'm sure you know her tastes by now) and be honest! Better to go this way than end up in the dog house...* *

How about installing a filter? I have a 5000 watt one installed. Wife was getting mad because I would bleed over pc speakers like crazy!  |

Well, sounds like the new antenna will have to wait and I'll get her some new lamps. Do ya think she will like the D104's that are made into lamps? LOL |

I have seen 500Z tubes turned into lamps and sold at a few of the hamfest here

Old thread but here goes:
Get rid of the amp, keep the wife and house, it's cheaper. Buy a beam, install a good TVI filter, ground everything, get a preamp and super tune the radio.

Its the TOuch Lamp, they are prone to this issue due to the way they work. I had limited success with my ex-wifes by wounding a choke using a toroid core in the power cable. I say limited as I still had one or two bands that would guive issues, but since I rarely used 40m it was not a great problem.
