I have a question,

I have a Galaxy 99, RK 56 microphone, Wilson 5000 mag mount, and
a Texas Star 667V Amp that was dead on arrival, but has already sent it back for
repairs.

I have read these boards, and others and have done what you all
have said.

I have run 4ga. wire red and black from the battery to the inside of my Expedition to two power distribution blocks. One for the pos, and one for the neg. Put a big ole fuse inline on the pos. side, 60 amp for now, but I realize from the posts here that I need a 100 amp. And a grounding strap from the amp chassis to the seat bolt

Now here are my questions.

1. Some say not to run both the radio and the amp to the same 4ga wire, so does that mean I need to run another 4ga. line from the battery, or can I run them both to the pos. distribution block inside the car. Both runs are less than a foot.

2. I see from all of the posts, that I should run 8ga. from the amp to the 4ga. distrubution
block, but there is only 1Oga. coming out of the amp. Do I need to open up the amp, and replace the 1Oga. with 8ga., or can I just splice 8ga. onto the 1Oga. and be ok? Same with the
radio, the biggest power wire harness I have found is 12ga., but everyone says to run 8ga. from, the radio too. How is this done?

Hope that I have covered everything, so that I can get some
answers before my amp gets back. If I have left anything out, just let me know.

Thanks for the help.

See Ya,
John

John,

What you have done so far is good. Wire gauge really comes into play, the longer the wire runs become. With your 4 AWG run from the battery to the distribution block you should have no problem connecting the amp to that distribution block using the stock wires coming from the amp. As long as that foot you mention, is the maximum distance you will be running the 10 AWG wiring from the amp, you should be okay.

I would run the amp only from that block, and run the radio seperately. Both + and -. However you will only need 10 AWG at the most for the radio, even if you have to run the whole way to the battery. The Galaxy's come with 16 AWG power wires from the factory, which is fine, except the are probably not heavy enough for runs that exceeed the factory length of that wire.

Be sure not to coil, crimp, pinch, bend, wrap, or kink any of the wires if you can help it. This is especially important with the power wires for the amp.
