I was thinking about getting a brand new 148gtl as my old one has lost its recive and i just want a new 148gtl...Anyway is the board the same on this radio as the old one internally are all the same parts in there so i can do all the modification ,,like adding a variable power and all the modulation modifiaction and stuff?? let me know as my finger is hovering over the buyit button..Thanks the need an answer ASAP...;)

EXACTLY the same...the made in china-new ones DO use cheaper parts(plastic pots, smaller wattage resistors, etc)they have a bad rep for that reason, but have not seen any 'self-destruct' for that reason...look for a NEW/leftover texas ranger 296 model-NOT 396!!! but 296, or a new general sherman-have seen them advertised for $129...but hard to come by, both are also same EXACT radio!
