Does grounding an antenna really do anything if you get hit by lightning?Reason i ask is my antenna is grounded and i have never been hit thank god,but a buddy of mine got hit by lightning a few days ago and blew up his antenna and radios he told me he didn't ground it.He wen't on to tell me even if it was grounded it wouldnt do anything cause lightning is so high powerd is will still blow up your radio.Is there any truth to this at all?I mean i grounded my antenna with copper wire and i ran it down to the ground into an 8 foot ground rod that's just about all the way into the ground.did i waste my time do this? |

If you ground your antenna and use a Polyphasor, your radio will not 'blow up' if you get hit. Chances are, your antenna will be splinters, but your radios will be unhurt. |

I agree with the tech, But I went a bit further in grounding my station. Not only did I ground the antenna, but I also ran a solid copper wire from the back of my radio and linear to a copper grounding stick(more like a rod actually) that is driven 6 FT. in to the ground outside my radio shop. I could tell a huge difference in how my radio transmitted and received just by grounding everything. |

In an effort to tie all my ground rods together as suggested and recommended - Especially to the houses AC Ground I had to go by my water-well. I needed to secure the ground strap at about this location to keep things tight organized and out of the way of mowers and weed wackers so I brazed it to the well pipe and you wanna talk about a ground WOW. Of course if I do get hit by lighting I will probably blow the well apart heheehe. |
