A friend gave me his above mentioned 6 dig counter (new/unused)for my standby President AX-144 with an open clarifier...(BIG SLIDE it seems...very touchy! TEEENY knob makes it worse :-)) The counter is the PL-259 in/out type with 2 aux jacks ..one for 13.8V and one for Hi-Imp. I didn't get the Hi-Imp input harness with it.
When I plug it in and Key up I can dial my freq BUT upon transmit it drops quite a bit and fluctuates? May I ask why? It'll drop to 16 to 18mHz. I switched it over to my 148GTL and did the same thing but not quite as much using the stock mic and stock tune...likewise with my Galaxy Pluto...maybe lower 20-22mHz zone +/- a bit.
It seems to be working "I think" but want to be sure that the way its supposed to be and why. I did try different lengths of coax just because figured what the heck :-)... and made no difference.
2) Can the Aux/Hi Imp harness be bought with instructions and would it cure this if I wired it direct into the radio?
No big deal really...just happy to FINALLY be able to check and FIND my Freq! That Clarifier doesn't like to be BREATHED ON!
3) ONE last thing...why the "HOLD" button? Whats the purpose? So you can look at the freq you dialed? A reminder?
Sorry for the questions but its my first EXTERNAL freq counter. :-)
(..now where are my Grant XL channel mods/open Clar plans?)
Thanks in Advance!

....well a week + later I'm still using it and seems fine but would still like to know if someone can give me any info on wiring it direct via the Hi-Imp jack?
Anyone wanna take a shot at any of the above?
Explainations? Input? I KNOW I'm not the only one who's wondered and wanted to learn...:-)

Vanillagorilla,

Sorry but I have never seen one or know anything about it.

If no one has used one or does not have the wiring schematics or instructions for one they cannot offer much help.

Hopefully someone who owns one or has used one will read this topic this weekend and be able to offer you some advice / help.

Seems to me most of the PL259 types are the same? I know most features are the same and figured someone could shed a little light on ONE of the subjects...no matter...finding things out for myself in the long run.

Thanks~
