In an earlier thread I mentioned I would like to get a Beam Antenna. Now that I have a Tower that desire is becoming more of a reality.
I presently run a Mcao V-5000 and was told that I would have to have it mounted 8' above the Beam. YET, I was also told the IMAX 2000 would have been a better choice and would actually work better the closer it was to the beam antenna (like 6"). Can someone explain WHY this is. I can take the radials of the GP off the Maco if needed. - So what's the deal???

That will work if your beam is horizontal only. Your beam will provide a ground plane for the Imax, OR the Maco for that matter, if you remove the radials. The ground plane radials on the Maco will screw up the tuning of the beam if they are close to it. I've seen both of these antennae used in that method.
I wouldn't even try it on a beam that was vertical. I don't think 8' would be high enough to keep it from messing with the tuning, because both of them being vertically polarized, they would be more inclined to interact.
