The sidebands are not equal in recieved signal strength . The LSB shows about 1 1/2 s units more than USB on a given signal from a signal source.

I would like to balance them out. I am guessing that there is a slug that needs tweeked but I don't know wich one.

Also, is there a VR for overall receive sensitivity/gain ?

Can you help? Thank you!

Did you get a service and instruction manual wiht your 959? I have a service manual for my DX2547 and it contains pot locations, and allignment procedures. Same radio chasis inside... If you have it check that, If not i can probably e-mail you a scan of that section.

im not 100% sure on this, but i dont think that there are individual adjustments for the sensitivity of each mode. as far as i remember, the reciever is aligned with the radio in USB mode, and then a few slugs are peaked in AM mode.

let me ask you this:

what is your reference signal?
is it a signal on AM that you tune to LSB, check the S untis, and then do the same on USB?

if this is the case, then you are not going to get them equal. there are too many variables at work in this scenario to decide that the radio is at fault. more than likely, the radio is fine, and the signal you are listening to has a characteristic to it that causes the perceived mismatch.

the only way you can tell if its in your radio, is to have a friend that you trust key up on an empty channel, on LSB and give you a solid AAHHHH for about five seconds. once you get him clarified in, check the S units.
now both of you go to USB and do the exact same thing. is the S unit reading about the same?

if not, there is a good chance that there is a problem with the SSB detector section. this will not be a tuning slug sort of repair, but most likely a component replacement. better to find a good tech to diagnose this for you.

I have the same issue with a DX 949 , the LSB shows a slightly higher S reading than USB.

The signal source is a very expensive signal generator and the signal is AM.
Using the AM signal with a 1000 hz tone and should work on SSB and be equally reproduced on opposite sidebands at equal Hz(+ or -) from center frequency.

Maybe this problem is a trivial issue but I like my radios RX top notch and balanced ssb.

Any suggestions here are GREATLY appriciated !

Thank you very much, ( domo arrigato )
