Hi everyone, Does the Predator 10k Antenna work well with a barefoot radio? Seems like everyone that uses one runs alot of power. I really like the looks of the antenna but I dont run very much power, 200 watts at the most and I hardly ever use it. Will it still work good with my barefoot radio? Thanks for the help.

I have a predator 27" shaft and it works great with my barefoot galaxy. It's the best antenna I've had for my truck.

10k antennas are made to take alot of wattage.
They are one of the best antennas out there.
I will agree with Big Wheel on that one.

the predator 10k is still a fairly big antenna. i went with the double coil 22" shaft to shorten the length a few inches because of a low bridge situation. still hits the bridge, but 6-8 more inches would remove it from my roof when i hit it

My truck has a lift kit on it so I put the predator on my tool box.I tried the 22" shaft dual coil but it just wouldn't tune the coils where is to close to the cab so I went with the 27" shaft single coil.It tuned alot better then.I guess the coil just needed to be a little bit more higher than the cab.

How long is the Predator 10k? I cant find any info on its length. I will be going with the 27" shaft to get it above my cab roof. Even if it was seven feet I wouldnt care because I could at least pull in my garage without it hitting.

my dual coil 22" shaft 10k is about 79" in length. plus the predator mount, on the triple mag. pictures are posted under members pics, the exact setup i talked to you on, the day you got your CEF #, scoobydoo. my single coil is 85". mag mounting causes a slightly different measurement then hard mounting...all the combos vary in length depending on how they are mounted, that's why they give no figures. they also come with a REAL LONG stinger that needs to be trimmed about 6" to start, then 1/2" at a time til swr's start to lower, then 1/4" at a time til they are...1.0:1 . i think i took almost 17-18" total off the stinger-in about 30 minutes i was tuned & talking skip. my diamond sx100 shows NO MOVEMENT at all on over 20 channels at any wattage! 1.3:1 or so over 80 channels

it gets out barefoot as well, talked to CEF612 with about 15 watts SSB, and have made numerous contacts on 26.835 AM-YES AM-without turning on the amp, about 2 watts swinging 15

Thanks for the help everyone. I decided to try a Astatic 3k first. Sound like a single coil predator with a 27" shaft is going to be almost as tall as a 102". If I dont like the astatic then I'll buy the Predator.

i LOVED my astatic 3k's! BOTH of 'em. both blew up with FAR LESS then 3000 watts though. really quick. otherwise, i'd still be running a 3k.

Get a dual coil 10K. The new ones have 2 extra wraps on the top coil to make them tune even shorter. You wont be sorry with it. Hit something with that Astatic and you will be buying a new antenna. On the 10k EVERY part is individually replaceable

Scoobydoo, I have had my 3k for about a month now and am very impressed. Am only running 325-350 watts. SWR, TX & RX are great.

Heard good things about the Astatic 3K like performance rx / tx , then I've heard bad things such as not very durable and high wattage problems. The 10K will give you what you want in rx / tx and it's pretty darn durable for the most part and lighter then the 3K.My dual coil 10K with 12 inch shaft on the Big Truck tuned in flat on the basic 1-40 channels at about 5.5 ft.As far as running a barefoot radio well I run a barefoot Magnum S-3,RK56B mic, and the 10K and it's the best set up yet to date that I've tried.

Thanks everyone for the help, Ive ordered the Astatic 3k. I have a 250 watt amp that I only use when absolutely nessesary. So hopefully it wont explode. If I dont like it then I will go with the 10k. Ordered Astatic from Copper so it wont take long to get here and I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks again everyone.

Good deal Scoob just try not to wack it up too much. I had a local run a barefoot Galaxy 44 with D-104 mic and Astatic 3K and must admit he did a fine job but ended up wacking it one too many times and ruined it. Now he runs a Francis and still holds his own but might of lost some punch on tx.

the total length is about 64 inches. I have mine mounted on a aluminum angle bracket in the front right corner of my bed. Its not too tall there so it doesnt seem to hit any branches so im crossing my fingers it wont get snapped off.

64 " inches is probably more in line with
what you wanted. Hey, glad it works great
for you!
Is it very heavy or just average weight of a
antenna?

It is heavier than it looks. I havent had many mobile antennas, but it is the heaviest i've owned.

I made a contact about 150 miles away (in my mobile with the 3k) a couple of hours ago. He was on a beam, but I still think that was good for 300 watts.
