They can sometimes be located on that internet auction site. You might try running a search on it and possibly build one yourself.

Hmm I will tell you this I never needed one of those, we play C.B. tag around here and it has never taken me more than a few minutes to find someone with my radio. Lots and lots of practice. The wont let me play anymore because I find everyone too quick. Oh well it still gets them when I come drivin up to where they are hiding and say hi! I have seen them in the back of a few scientific magazines. They are relatively cheap too.

do a Google search for "Signal Hunter" direction finding antenna, the model you are looking for is 1043

I bet there are also plenty of places on the net that have instructions on building them. That would be the "more fun" way to do it. If your like me anyway.

I have a Doppler Syetems model 5900 DF setup mounted in my truck and use it all the time. The website is basically dopplersystems with a dot com behind it. It works perfect! |

The Doppler Systems one requires four antennas, spaced 1/4 wavelength apart. Tech833, are you using this for CB or amateur fox hunts?
For hobby use, I use a TDOA (time difference of arrival) system. Haven't tried it with 11m frequencies, but I think you have to be a ham in order to buy one. It triangulates well, but doesn't tell you how close you are to the signal or what the elevation might be. |

I don't see that one working CB Frequencies.
Would sure be cool to have one of those I think and I'm crazy enough to get one for fun if it wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg.

There is three different finders on that site. I thought I AW ONE THAT WOULD COVER 11 meter plus a hole bunch of other freq's besides. They look awful costly to me. The first one will do the same thing at a much lower price. If you want lights rig up a rotary switch that will turn on a led in the direction it's pointing. Probably save a few hundred.

kj7gs- Yes. I have used it from CB all the way up to 950 Mhz. For the low bands, I have lowband base loaded antennas and I space the mag mounts further apart. For the higher frequencies (VHF, UHF and 800) I have 1/4 wave whips and I adjust the mag mount spacing accordingly.
A TDOA will work for CB as long as you space the antennas 8 feet apart! You need the spacing to get enough deviation in the receiver to hear the tone. |
