What microphones are being used on the Magnum S9's? Was it worth spending the extra bucks for a new mic, or is it close in performance to the stock mic?

I tried an Astatic 575, Astatic D104m6c and both made NO improvement over the stocker..(to my surprise)If you want a higher quality mic that has a little weight to it then try the Texas Ranger SRA-158...its NON amplified but is built heavy duty with the GOOD cord :-)
A fantastic stock replacement that is crystal clear.
DO NOT spend $40 on a power mic for the S-9! Heck don't spend $20 for a power mic! DOES NOT NEED ONE Nor WILL IT BENIFIT from one!:-)

IMHO

Good Luck and ENJOY that rig!

I tried me3, 636L, old cobra power mic and the stocker. The only one of these that worked well was the Cobra power mic. People said my voice was tinny with the me3, the 636L I could not get used to having it by my mouth plus I did not like the feel of it.The stocker everyone said sounded like a stock mic i.e. low modulation etc. Then for curiosity sake I tried the Cobra and everyone liked it. They said it was loud, and clear and sounded like me. So not content to have old mic with my new S9 I did a little research on the Web on the D104M6B,it sounded like it would do a good job. So I ordered it from Copper, got it, hooked it up, and it's still there. It's loud, it reproduces my voice, it feels good inmy hand, Idon't have to stuff it down my throat to talk, so I am happy with the A70-05010 ASTATIC D104-M6(B) MOBILE MICROPHONE
$ 39.99

On my S9 I do not use that Top Gun Modulator. I have the RF Power turned nearly all the way down, and the mic gain on the radio at about the 2-3 o'clock position. On the mic I have it on
4-5 setting.I am using a Texas Star DX-500 in third gear. I am also using a 5 foot Wilson Siver Load on the back of my Jeep on the tire carrier.About 4 foot of the tenna is above the soft top. I talk all over the Tampa Bay area, and do DXing just riding around.

Thanks all. Maybe someday I'll be able to catch some skip and you'll hear me.
God Bless to all in the upcoming holiday seasons.

For my voice and setup, the RK-56 seems to be the best.
