On the tower should I ground each section to each other?

Should I also ground the tower right at the base?

I was going to run a ground wire from the antenna base to the tower base and ground it there,or is it enough that the I-Max base is attatched to the tower by the mounting hardware (U Bolts)?

My coax is going to the other end of the house for entry, this is where I am going to mount the polyphaser and ground it for entry into the house, is this right?

Wildrat,

Clean each piece of your tower sections where
they join together inside and out for a good connection of your tower./ You may want to use Anti-Seize or something similar before bolting them together, (not sure what works best)./ Ground each tower leg to a ground-rod with Copper strap or heavy copper gauged wire./ Using Stainless steel or bronze clamps on tower legs./ Make sure your antenna and mast is grounded good to your tower.Your Polyphaser is grounded to a ground-rod at the entry of where it enters your shack. That ground-rod needs tied in with your antenna/ tower grounds with copper strap or heavy
gauged Copper wire./All your groundrods should be tied together in a single point ground system.
When lightning strikes it usually will spread out down through your coax, tower ect.
There are alot of other posts that explain Lightning protection on the forum. Do a search.
Wish you the best!

I understand about lightning protection. The problem when my wife decided that the tower needs to be at the opposite end of the house from the coax entry. I don't think I need to run a 80-90 foot long ground wire to where the polyphaser is. It's bad enough I have to run the coax all around the house. You can't run the coax thru the attic so now you have added more coax to the length of the run. So anyway the tower will be grounded well. I will connect a ground wire to my houses ground system since it's there. So anyway the concrete will be here shortly.

Why wouldn't you put this polyphaser at the ground rod near the tower instead of where the coax enters the shack?

Wilrat,

Let me see if i have this straight.Your grounding
your antenna and tower. You will run your coax
to the entry of your home and there you have a ground-rod/s for your polyphaser. I suppose you also have all your equipment single-point grounded to a outside ground-rod/s???
Your going to run a groundwire from your
house ground-rod to the polyphaser groundrod???
How about your radio ground-rods???
Just trying to picture this in my mind.

Coax can act as a capacitor. If the shield is struck by lightning there will be some energy transfer to the center conductor. If there happens to be a lightning strike between the house and tower it's possible that some energy can still enter the house, but if it's placed where the coax enters the house this is less likely.

I am going to put the polyphaser where the coax enters the house. The polyphaser and equip will share the same ground rod which will share the same ground as the houses grounding system.

The end of the house where the tower is I will ground to a couple of ground rods that I will drive into the ground. It so happens that my Main breaker box for the house is also at this end of the house, along with the pool pump, pool heater, and jacuzzi equipment. This equipment is all single point grounded already. I am going to connect the tower to this ground.

Single point ground.

Hope this makes more sense to ya.

I'll be there sooner or later. I am starting to get things arranged inside though. Fabing a ground buss, grounding equip, etc.. Then when the tower goes up, coax is run to PolyPhaser all that will be left is to run the coax from the equipment to the PolyPhaser. Yes I am very anxious. The cement should be good and hard. I covered it with dirt and have been keeping it wet. They say this increase the strength of the cement by 50 percent if you do this for 7 days.

Oh well See Ya'll

No, I'm just ready to get it up. I have enough other things to keep me busy. I am going to make some new jumpers out of the 213. Rearrange my computer/radio room corner (Have to make room for Squeaky).I have to build my ground system. I have to install the surge protector. Anyway theres lots to do. I am very slow also and can't work very long. I am already paying for my stuborness from the last two days, so I am even slower. So anyway my anxiety will come when I get ready to flip the switch.

I have a tilt over base. I also put my chain fall at the peak of the house to make it much easier getting it up and down. I don't think it would be a good idea for me to climb the tower, not unless it's just to get on the roof. I have been cleaning my corner so I can set the radio back up. It's actually going to be nice. My wife is redecorating the living room in a Florida theme i.e. Palm tree stuff, bamboo, new table with bamboo chairs with palm tree cushions. She was going to give the old table to one of the children but it's mine now. I have a nice radio table/workbench right in the house, plenty of light, right by an AC vent, and under a ceiling fan. The computer desk is there also. I can work at the computer turn the chair around and the radio is there. Since I got the DM M400 base unit, I have a nice pr-60 power supply for a 12VDC source, I just need to get the computers back online so I can get the web sites back up before tomorrow so I won't have the wife on my back nagging me about her web site. Oh well I guess I better get back to it. See Ya'll
